My name is Talita Suassuna, and I have been the art teacher at Hart Middle School since 2021. I hold a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the California College of the Arts, a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Art from California State University, East Bay, and a CTE Credential in Arts, Media, and Entertainment from the San Diego County Office of Education. I also teach Digital Art as part of our AME CTE program.
Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, I have worked as a professional visual artist in the Bay Area since 2005 as a painter, graphic designer, and illustrator. I have taught art at the elementary, middle, and high school levels and previously taught visual arts at an IB World School.
In my classes, students engage in hands-on artmaking using traditional and non-traditional materials while building visual arts literacy, artistic vocabulary, and critical thinking skills. Students explore the elements and principles of art and learn to reflect, critique, and connect personal experiences to their work.
My curriculum follows the California Visual Arts Standards and incorporates the Studio Habits of Mind and Project Zero strategies to support creativity, collaboration, and cross-curricular learning.
My goal is to help each student develop artistic skills, discover their creative voice, and gain confidence as young artists.

Artistic Behaviors
Art students strive to exhibit artistic behaviors. Specifically, they aim to...
Create Original Art
Develop Art Making Skills
Improved Academic Performance
Communicate Through Their Work
Take Chances/Risks
Collaborate
Solve Problems
Reflect
Have a Global Awareness of Art making
The arts foster higher levels of thinking that carry over to learning other academic subjects as well as to life outside of school. Through the arts, students learn to observe, interpret, see different perspectives, analyze, and synthesize. In a world where students must frequently wade through a sea of information to determine which facts are trustworthy and relevant to a particular topic, critical thinking skills are key to college readiness and lifelong learning.
