Hi! I’m Melissa, and I’m honoured to step into the role of President for the Old Girls’ Union. After three years on the committee, it’s a joy to continue working alongside Peta and our dedicated team as we build on the momentum of recent years.
This year, our focus is threefold: preserving and sharing our archives, expanding our contact list, and exploring new fundraising opportunities to support future initiatives. These goals reflect our desire to honour the past while strengthening connections for the future. I am also excited to share a glimpse of our latest fundraising effort—items featuring design by yours truly, with hidden clues drawn from experiences of attending PLC.
A bit about me—I’m from the class of 2013, live in Armidale after several years in Brisbane, and being on the OGU committee is somewhat of a family affair for me. I am following in the footsteps of my grandmother, Pam Harvey (Davidson) and cousin, Sonia Broun (Waters). I work in Communications, and if you’ve read any of these renewed editions of the Green Tartan or our social media, you’ve already seen a little of my handiwork. In my spare time, I'm especially fond of almost all creative pursuits, book clubs, travel, and excessive amounts of team sports.
I’m excited for what’s ahead and look forward to hearing your ideas, stories, and suggestions as we continue to build the connections in this Union.
Warm wishes,
Melissa Harvey
This Sunday 19 October, we invite all Old Girls to join the 19 for 19 Challenge in honour of Old Girl Anya Zuber, whose life was tragically cut short by osteosarcoma at just 19. Her wish—to fund life-saving research—lives on through this annual event.
Whether you're walking 19km through Armidale’s escarpment country or creating your own virtual challenge (19 laps, 19km, 19 star jumps—anything goes), every step supports the Children’s Cancer Institute and helps make Anya’s wish a reality.
Registrations close this Friday, so please lace up, and join us to walk with purpose.
PLC Armidale and Hilton hold thousands of archival items—photos, Ad Astras, uniforms, letters, and more, and these items desperately need organisation and preservation.
We’re forming a small team of Archive Coordinators to help digitise and protect this collection. Training will be provided, and we have set aside some small grants to compensate some of your time.
Please consider putting your hand up, without intervention, we may lose this history and many hands make light work. Email us at oldgirls@plcarmidale.nsw.edu.au
In August, we welcomed alumnae from 2020, 2015, 2005, 1995, 1985, and 1975 for a weekend of reconnection and celebration. It was our biggest post-COVID reunion yet, filled with laughter, stories, and shared memories.
We were especially delighted to have former staff join us—teachers who served from the 1980s through to the 2020s. Their presence added depth and nostalgia, and we hope to welcome even more in future years.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, and to those who made it happen: our volunteers with in the committee but also Ben for keeping the bar flowing, Karen for driving the bus, and the school for hosting us so generously.
The event was even featured in the New England Times: PLC Armidale Alumnae Reunion – A Joyful Celebration of Connection and Community
We’re pleased to introduce a great mix of returning and new faces on this year’s PLC Armidale Old Girls’ Union Committee:
Melissa Harvey (2013) – President
Peta Taylor (2009) – Vice President
Kim Curruthers – Secretary
Lauren Hiscox (2013) – Treasurer
Chelsea Jeffery – Committee Member
We’re pleased to once again host an end-of-year celebration in Armidale—a casual gathering for Old Girls who live locally or are visiting family between Christmas and New Year.
It’s a relaxed afternoon to reconnect, reflect, and enjoy good company. We’d love to see you—and your mother too. All mothers of Old Girls are warmly invited to attend.
When: 2.30 pm, Saturday 27 December 2025
Where: 92 Douglas St, Armidale (Our committee member, Chelsea Jeffery's house).
What: Afternoon tea and drinks provided
The event is free, but we welcome donations to help support future gatherings.
After growing up at PLC Armidale from Pre-K to Year 12, Alex Hiscox has taken her adventurous spirit abroad. Having spent the past few years working as a physiotherapist in Newcastle, she’s now relocated to the UK for two years to combine locum work with European travel.
Alex thrives in the fast-paced world of public health, where no two days are the same. She finds deep reward in helping patients reach their recovery goals and values the strong sense of community among health professionals.
Outside of work, Alex is an avid runner and hiker—she recently explored the Dolomites with fellow PLC alumnae Kiera Shaw. She credits her school friendships as the most enduring gift from her time at PLC: “Despite living in different areas, we regularly catch up and continue to be a great support network for each other. These girls and these memories are irreplaceable.”
We’re working towards a sleek, limited-edition fundraiser—designed with nostalgia and secret meaning, available for purchase.
Funds raised will support our Bursary for descendants of Old Girls and the 19 for 19 team, honouring Anya Zuber and advancing cancer research. Sneak peek below—full details coming soon!
After a marvellous first year in 2024, we’re hoping to make judging Guild Drama a new tradition—and we’d love you to be part of it.
We’re seeking expressions of interest from alumnae to join the judging panel for this year’s performances in Armidale on the afternoon of Thursday 5 December.
The committee will select judges based on availability, guild variety, and a mix of year groups to ensure a balanced and inclusive panel.
