Using the Device

Using your device at school

  1. The device is the property of Platteville School District. There should be no expectation of privacy of materials found on the device nor in any student accounts. As Platteville property, a device can be seized and reviewed at any time.

  2. All students assigned District-owned devices are required to have their devices with them at school and are not encouraged to bring personal computers or tablets.

  3. Student devices come with at least one camera, along with other recording capacities. That said, the expectation is that users will follow the AUP and not record individuals or groups without expressed permission.

  4. The intention is that devices will be used each day. Students are required to bring their devices to all classes, unless specifically directed otherwise.

  5. The expectation is that the device will be brought to school each day FULLY charged. Students should charge their device every evening. Fully charged devices should have a battery life of 8-10 hours. Students may bring their devices to the library for charging, and cords MAY be available for check out.

  6. If a student leaves his/her device at home, a loaner MAY be available. Regardless, students will still be expected to get their coursework completed. Not having a device is not a justifiable excuse for incomplete school work. If it is a repeated issue, students will have to meet with the principal and may lose the privilege of taking the device home, whether it be temporarily or permanently.

  7. Devices should NEVER be left in an unsupervised area, such as locker rooms, commons, lunchroom, playground, computer labs, library, hallways, or unlocked classrooms. Doing so promotes theft.

  8. Devices should never be used in bathrooms or locker rooms.

  9. Devices will be available for loan for emergency situations, such as repair. A limited amount of devices will be available to be checked out and returned to the school’s library by the end of the school day.

  10. Sound should be muted unless directed otherwise by teacher. Students should use their own earbuds. Sound should not be played in the hallways.

  11. The device should be limited to school activities.

  12. All students are expected to guard their personal information.

  13. Avoid plagiarism by giving credit to all sources, including pictures, videos, music, and text.

  14. Circumventing the District filter will be considered an Acceptable Use Policy Violation.
