Participating bands compete in a prelims/finals competition format, and a seven-judge panel evaluates participants similarly to the UIL State Marching Contest, including the following criteria:
Wind, Brass, Percussion, Visual, and Color Guard Performance, Music and Visual Ensemble
The top 10 scoring bands, regardless of classification, advance to finals competition. Should any Class Champion not advance to Finals, they will have the opportunity for an exhibition performance prior to Finals.
Non-varsity marching bands are scored on a different system that more closely resembles the UIL Region Marching Contest: three judges evaluate using the UIL Region sheets, while four evaluate the specific areas of Music, Visual, Percussion, and Color Guard.
