4. Miss Dodenhoff - Can an image you draw with expo marker dance in water?
You will need:
a glass bowl or dish (with an edge)
expo marker(s)
water
Directions:
Use an expo marker and draw an image on the bottom of the glass. The image MUST be connected by lines. Then wait for 10-15 minutes for the image to dry.
After 10-15 minutes, you will need to pour some water into the bowl without the water touching the image. To do this, tip the bowl so the image is at the top and the water can collect on the bottom. Once you have enough water, you begin to SLOWLY lower the bowl until it's flat on the table. Hopefully your image lifts off the bottom of the bowl and is now floating! Swirl the water around carefully - not touching the image - to make it move and dance!
EXPLANATION:
Expo markers write using pigment (color) and alcohol. When you draw an image and let it sit for a while, the alcohol evaporates leaving just the pigment behind. As you add water to the bowl, and slowly begin lowering the bowl to the table, the water is able to seep under the pigment and lift the dried pigment off the surface. This is how you can make your image dance!!!!!
