I CAN study the front cover and the table of contents (if there is one), peek at a few pages, and think about how the book will go.
2. Read from your book bag, books from home, Epic or RAZ kids for 20 minutes.
3. Go to CLEVER to access Raz-kids.com and Epic.com
We can start to think about what a book is going to teach us even before we start reading by taking a SNEAK PEEK.
Look at the cover and read the title.
Turn the book over and look at the back cover.
The front and back covers can give you lots of great information.
Look at the Table of Contents.
Look at the parts inside the books so we can see how the book will go and what it will teach us.
Look at the different text features that can give you additional information.
As you read, be asking "What is this part teaching me?".
Slow down and savor your book.
Make sure you pay attention to the details in your book.
Put the parts together in your brain.
Think about the questions that come up as you read and pay attention so you can find the answers to the most important questions you have.

Remember when you are beginning a new writing piece to always:
Plan: Touch and tell or sketch or stop and jot key words or do a combination of the 3 ways to plan.
Think about where your story should begin and end.
Write a WHOLE story from beginning to end.
Remember how to spell long words. The steps are below.
