The Karl J. Schwartz Rotary Award Fund Scholarship Program offers up to 10 renewable $8,000 awards for graduating high school seniors from Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington, or Terryville. Eligible students must plan to enroll full-time in an accredited four-year college or university for the upcoming academic year. To learn more about this scholarship click here.
Applicants are required to submit an essay describing personal experiences that reflect the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self.”

The American Savings Foundation manages 120 scholarship funds for students residing in Plainville and 63 other surrounding towns! Seniors attending a 4-year college, 2-year college, or an accredited technical/vocational program are eligible to apply. There is no minimum GPA to apply! Scholars are selected primarily based on financial need and the potential impact of a scholarship award. Click here to learn more!

The Horatio Alger Association is seeking students who display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, and plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Students must have financial need and a determination to turn adversity into opportunity and pursue their American Dream.
Eligibility Requirements:
Be enrolled full time as a high school Junior or Senior in the United States
Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (complete list can be found here: Scholarships)
Demonstrate financial need ($100,000 or lower household income)
Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0
Be a United States citizen

Students in grades 9-12 in good academic standing at Plainville High School are eligible to apply. Can be individual or group.
Any volunteer activity can be nominated but preference will be given to those that were:
Student initiated.
Have not been done as part of another requirement for a specific award.
Involve kindness, and activism as noted above.
It is expected that the majority of nominations will be self-nominations. In the event that a student does not self-nominate, a nomination will be accepted from another student or from the organization/persons that were benefited by the service.
The student or team need only submit one written page describing the community service that was performed. The student/team should note how both the recipient of the service as well as the student/team benefited from the service. The document should be sent as an email to info@petitfamilyfoundation.org as a Word document.
A second letter from the organization/person/observer of this activity must be submitted (letter of recommendation) simultaneously with each individual or team application. It should be one page and submitted as noted in 4 above.
While students and families are welcome to web search for scholarships, there are programs that make the search for scholarships easier! GoingMerry is trusted site where students create an account, enter their demographic information, and are matched with scholarships that they are eligible for. The CollegeBoard Opportunity Scholarships are a set of scholarships awarded to students for taking steps towards college planning.
