Coach Mazz is a 1979 graduate of Maple Hts. High School (Cleveland), 1983 graduate of Walsh University, and a 1989 graduate of the University of Akron (MBA).
Mazz ran cross country and track (400M, 800M) all through high school and college. During his senior year at Walsh he was team captain and was named an NAIA Academic All-American. He and his wife Vicki (also a Walsh graduate and runner) are members of Walsh University’s Wall of Fame.
2024 will mark his ninteenth season working with coach Krosse and the GlenOak Boy’s cross-country team. He coached 2 years at the middle school prior to that as well as an AAU track team from 2004 -2010 that yielded multiple repeat All-Americans. He assisted coach Krosse in leading the 2009 team to the State Championship Meet (finishing a boys CC school best - sixth place), as well as in 2021, 2022 and 2024. This will also be his ninteenth season as an assistant coach in the GlenOak track program where he specializes in middle distance. Mazz is currently a USATF level one certified official and has overseen the finish line at the past seven AAU Junior Olympic Track Meets.
He has been employed by the Timken Company for 35 years and married to Vicki for over 30 years. They have three children, Twins Emily (former runner at University of Mount Union) and Marcus (currently living in Seattle, Washington) both class of 2010, and Tony class of 2015.
