Paul Knott (1976-1978) All-Ohio 1978, All-American 1978
Paul ran cross country when the race was only 2 ¼ mile. He held the school record in cross country at that time and still holds the 3200 meter school record with a 9:10. During his cross country career he accumulated numerous honors including All-Federal League First Team in both 1977 and 1978. All-Stark County First Team in 1976, 1977, and 1978. He earned All-Ohio and All-American honors in 1978. During his Senior year he finished State Runner-up in cross country, which is the best finish at the State Meet in the history of the program.
Dennis Knott (1980-1983) All-Ohio 1982, 1983
Dennis began his cross country career at about the same time the distance was changed to a 5k. Prior to 2003, Dennis held the GlenOak cross country record with a 15:39. During his cross country career he accumulated numerous honors including All-Federal League First Team in 1981,1982, and 1983. All-Stark County First Team in 1981,1982, and 1983. He also earned All-Ohio honors in both 1982 and 1983, he is the only runner in the history of the program to earn All-Ohio honors two years in a row.
Kevin Rice (1982-1984) All-Ohio 1984
Kevin Secured his place in the history of the program by running on of the top five times in the history of the program with a 15:41. During his cross country career he accumulated numerous honors including All-Federal League First Team in 1982 and 1984. All-Stark County First Team in 1982 and 1984. He earned All-Ohio honors in 1984 and during that year was one of the top runners in the state.
Matt Calder (1988-1991) All-Ohio 1991, All-American 1991.
Matt was one of GlenOak’s best runners during the early 1990’s. He ran a personal record of 16:02 in 1991. During his cross country career he accumulated numerous honors including All-Federal League First Team in 1990 and 1991. All-Stark County First Team in 1990 and 1991. He also Earned All-Ohio honors in 1991 and then went on to earn All-American honors while running with the AAU team in 1991.
Ryan Kienzle (2000-2003) All-Ohio 2003
Ryan was one of the best runners in the history of GlenOak since the race was changed to the 5k. He broke the previous record of 15:39 by running a 15:38 in 2003. During his cross country career he accumulated numerous honors including All-Federal League First Team in 2002 and 2003. All Stark County First Team in 2002 and 2003. He earned All-Ohio honors in 2003 with his 8th place state finish. He was also named Federal League Runner of the Year in 2002 and 2003 and Stark County Runner of the year in 2002 and 2003. He also worked hard in the classroom and received Academic All-Ohio honors in 2002 and 2003. During the 2004 State track meet he finished 5th in the 3200 meter with a time of 9:19, only 9 seconds away from Paul Knott’s record of 9:10.
Christian Jones (2007-2009) All-Ohio 2009
Christian had a very successful career as a member of the GlenOak Cross Country team. He qualified to the State Meet as an individual in 2008 and then led a team to the State Meet in 2009. His personal record of 16:12 was set at the 2009 State Meet where he earned All-Ohio Honors, finishing 11th overall. During his cross country career he accumulated numerous honors All-Federal League First Team in 2008 and 2009. All-Stark County First Team in 2008 and 2009. He was also named Federal League Runner of the Year in 2009. He is also a member of the 4X800 team that finished 4th at the State Meet, 3rd at the Nike National Meet and broke the school record with a 7:44.63.
Tommy Rice (2019-2022) All-Ohio 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022
Tommy had a very successful career as a member of the GlenOak Cross Country Middle School team where he won the Ohio Middle School State Cross Country Championship as an eighth grader. His personal record of 14:57 was set at the 2022 Nike Midwest Championship. He qualified twice as an individual to the State Cross Country Championship and helped lead the entire team in 2021 & 2022 where he earned 4x All-Ohio Honors, finishing 25th overall with a time of 15:55 in 2019, 28th overall with a time of 16:08 in 2020, 11th place in 2021 and 3rd in 2022. In 2019 he was named First Team All-Federal League as well as First Team All-Stark County. In 2020 he was named First Team All-Federal League, First Team All-Stark County, Stark County All-Academic Team, All-Ohio Academic Team and All-Ohio Peformance at the State Championship. In 2021& 2022 he was named First Team All-Federal League, Federal League Runner of the Year, First Team All-Stark County, Stark County Runner of the Year, Stark County All-Academic Team, All-Ohio Academic Team and All-Ohio Performance at the State Championship.
Tesfaye Young (2020-2022) All-Ohio 2022
Tesfaye had a very successful career as a member of the GlenOak Cross Country team. He helped lead the team to the State Meet in both 2021 and 2022. His personal record of 15:25 was set at the 2022 at the Jackson Invitational. In 2022 ran a 15:55 and finished 21st at the State Championships to earn All-Ohio Honors. During his cross country career, he accumulated numerous honors All-Federal League First Team in 2022, Second Team All-Federal League in 2020 & 2021. All-Stark County First Team in 2020, 2021 & 2022. He earned Academic All-Ohio in 2021 & 2022 as well as Academic All-County in 2020, 2021 & 2022.
