Building Early Literacy Foundations
PODER is an online video course created by Abriendo Puertas, UnboundEd, and CORE Learning to support Spanish-speaking parents of Multilingual Learners. It helps families understand best practices in early literacy, gives them strategies to support language and literacy at home, and empowers them to advocate for high-quality reading instruction in schools. The course includes three modules focused on literacy foundations, home support activities, and school advocacy, helping parents become confident partners in their children's education.
Through a collaboration among Abriendo Puertas, UnboundEd, and CORE Learning, an online video course was created specifically for Spanish-speaking parents of Multilingual Learners to enable them to support and advocate for high-quality, high-impact reading instruction in their children’s districts, schools, and classrooms.
El curso está dividido en tres módulos. El primer módulo está diseñado para fortalecer los conocimientos de los padres sobre las mejores prácticas en alfabetización temprana basadas en investigaciones para los estudiantes multilingües. Reading Tips for Parents in Multiple Languages is a valuable resource offering simple, one-page tip sheets to help parents support their children's literacy development from infancy through third grade. These tips are available in English and 12 other languages, including Spanish, French, Arabic, Traditional Chinese, Haitian Creole, Hmong, Korean, Portuguese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Diné (Navajo), and Russian. The materials provide practical, age-appropriate strategies that parents can use at home to foster a love of reading and strengthen language skills, making literacy support accessible and inclusive for families from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
