Vision
Every learner in Placer County thrives as a confident, capable reader, empowered by strong partnerships among families, schools, and the community. Together, we foster a culture of literacy where opportunity, awareness, and success are accessible to all.
Mission
Placer County Office of Education’s Placer Reads Literacy Initiative enhances literacy for every learner by partnering with families, caregivers, schools, and the community to implement proven strategies that raise awareness, expand opportunities, and strengthen partnerships to ensure success for all students.
Goals
Ensure all learners—especially English learners, students with disabilities, those experiencing homelessness, and students experiencing poverty—achieve strong reading outcomes, with measurable gains in state and local assessments.
This will be accomplished through the following:
Communities of Practice
Support all partner districts and sites in developing and implementing Local Literacy Plans, administering universal screening for reading difficulties, and embedding literacy goals into district accountability structures.
High Quality Professional Learning Opportunities
Strengthen educator knowledge and implementation of Tier 1, evidence-based literacy practices through ongoing professional learning, with increasing application measured by surveys, self-assessments, and classroom walkthroughs.
High Quality Supports for Community and Family Members
Expand access to and engagement with literacy resources among families, early childhood educators, and community members through professional learning and digital platforms, while establishing and monitoring baseline data.
