In Placer County we believe that literacy is the ability to comprehend through reading, writing, speaking, and listening in ways that enable individuals to communicate effectively, navigate diverse contexts, and make sense of the world. It encompasses traditional skills like reading and writing, along with critical thinking, digital literacy, and cultural understanding. Literacy is a lifelong process that begins in early childhood and evolves as we interact with different forms of language, symbols, and media. It empowers individuals to engage with society, contribute to their communities, adapt to and influence the ever-changing demands of the world around them.
