This class includes a survey of the various genres of literature: poetry, short stories, and novels. A mixture of traditional and modern classics will reflect those novels that are used in first year college English Literature course and those that are commonly used on the AP Literature and Composition tests. A broad mixture of American, British, and World Literature will be used to expand the participant’s awareness of the variety of literature that is available including the exploration of the historical differences in people, places, times and experiences. Students will take practice multiple choice tests analyzing the author’s purpose and use of various Rhetorical Devices and Literary Terms; and write practice essays in preparation for the AP Literature and Composition test. The three essays are the Literary Analysis Essay; Poetry, Prose or Drama Passage; and The Open Question on a Novel. This course will be offered every other year in a rotation with AP Lang.
