English 9

This course is designed to help students gain the necessary prerequisite skills to be successful in other academic courses; learning the fundamentals of language, parts of speech, and punctuation through writing, reading and speaking. This 1 credit required English class will introduce the following literary genres: Novel, Short Story, Drama, and Poetry. Students model what they read by writing their own Short Story, a Children’s Story, and a portfolio of poetry. (English 9 focuses on Creative Writing) Spelling, grammar, vocabulary, journaling, and computer skills are emphasized. A Book Report is due at the end of each quarter.
