Dance Course Overview
Dance I: This course serves as a prerequisite to Dance II. Dance activities include activities such as dance style and technique, choreography skills, dance history and vocabulary, body awareness and conditioning and proper stretching. Students enrolled in Dance I will experience daily physical activity levels of moderate to high intensity. Proper dance attire is required and participation in the West Dance Concert: Expressions is a key part of the curriculum.
Dance II: This course is designed for Dance I students to continue their journey through Dance at Plano West Senior High School at a more advanced level. Students will earn one (1) Fine Arts/ PE credit as a full year class. This class is open to anyone who has previously received a Dance I credit. Students enrolled in Dance II will experience daily physical activity levels of moderate to high intensity. Proper dance attire is required and participation in the West Dance Concert: Expressions is a key part of the curriculum.
Dance III: This course is designed for Dance II students to continue their journey through Dance at Plano West Senior High School at a more advanced level. Dance IV: This course is designed for Dance III students to continue their journey through Dance at Plano West Senior High School at a more advanced level. Dance Company: This is an audition based course for Dance III & Dance IV students. The course uses and follows the Dance III & IV curriculum, with a heavy focus on both student choreography and performance. The Dance Company participates in outside of class performances, in addition to the West Dance Concert: Expressions that ALL dance students perform. Performances in the past include pep rallies, basketball games, and Shepton's Night of Dance. Students will earn one (1) Fine Arts/ PE credit as a full year class.
