AVID tutorials are in-class collaborative groups where students use the inquiry process to address points of confusion in order to gain a better understanding of the concepts from core classes.
AVID students are asked to take notes in all of their core academic courses. After taking notes, students need to take the notes and process them in order to determine what is understood and where confusion begins. Notes are the insight into the students' thinking.
During in-class AVID tutorials, students bring a question to their small group. They then take turns presenting their question while their group asks questions to help the presenter make connections and understand the content. College and adult tutors lead each group and guide students in the right direction. Tutors also help students improve their note-taking and organizational skills.
