Sectionals for Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band members are required once a week. This is when students take playing tests and get individualized help on their part of our music, All-Region music, solos, ensembles, and audition preparations.
Please plan ahead for a ride to and from your scheduled sectional time. If you have a morning sectional, students will enter from door 21, the band hall door, at 7:20 AM. After school sectionals must plan for a ride home at 4:50 PM. This is a co-curricular activity. It is part of the course and required. If your child is in Athletics at Otto, they must inform their coaches of their prior commitment for this once a week sectional. The coaches understand that band students must attend sectionals, but need to be told in advance. See schedules below. Thank you.
Otto Band Course Options
Our Wind Ensemble is the premier performance group and the official face of the Otto Band program. Comprised of our most advanced musicians, this elite ensemble represents our school at UIL, Solo and Ensemble contests, and All-Region auditions throughout the year. Placement is by audition only.
Our Symphonic Band is a dynamic intermediate ensemble where students perform exciting, fun music, build lasting friendships, and showcase their talents at football games. This dedicated group pushes their skills to the next level by auditioning for All-Region Band and competing at UIL and Solo and Ensemble contests.
Our Concert Band is an energetic ensemble where students develop their musical foundations while performing at exciting events like football games and semester concerts. This dedicated group also participates in Solo and Ensemble contests, giving our musicians a wonderful opportunity to grow their individual skills and shine on stage.
Our Beginning Band is where the musical journey starts, focusing on building strong foundations and teaching students how to play their very first instruments. Throughout the year, our beginners showcase their growth at semester concerts and solo contests while making lasting friendships that will carry them through their middle school years.
Doubling
Our Doublers are dedicated seventh and eighth graders who take on the exciting challenge of learning a second instrument alongside their primary one. By stepping into beginner classes to learn something new, these ambitious musicians act as experienced role models and leaders for our newest band members.
Otto Jazz
Otto Jazz is our voluntary, after-school jazz band that meets every Friday to explore the magic and fun of jazz music. Through unique rhythms, improvisation, and special performances throughout the year, it’s the perfect place for students to showcase their skills and kick off the weekend with some high-energy grooving!
Otto Band Leadership Team
Officers
Our Band President and Vice President serve as student leaders who help keep rehearsals running smoothly and organize fun band events throughout the year. They act as the voice of our musicians, working closely with the director to build a supportive, high-energy community for everyone.
Librarians
Our Band Librarians are the unsung heroes who keep our music organized, sorted, and ready for every rehearsal. From distributing sheet music to managing our library, they make sure every musician has exactly what they need to succeed.
Attendance Secretaries
Our Attendance Secretaries play a vital role by keeping careful track of who is present and ready to play at every rehearsal and performance. Their dedication ensures our ensemble is always accounted for and running right on schedule.
Design Team
Our Design Team is the creative crew responsible for transforming our band hall into an inspiring, high-energy space for our musicians. By carefully planning and purchasing decorations, banners, and motivational displays, they make sure our band room feels like a welcoming second home.
Chair Crew
Our Chair Crew is the heavy-lifting team that ensures our band hall stays organized and ready for daily rehearsals. They are the first to arrive and the last to leave for concerts, working hard behind the scenes to handle the setup and teardown of chairs and stands so our performances run flawlessly.
Band Buddies
Our Band Buddies program pairs experienced upper band students with beginner musicians to help them navigate their first year in the program. In addition to offering friendly advice and instrument tips, they host fun parties throughout the year to help our newest members build lasting friendships.
