GRADEBOOK AND PARENT PORTAL HOME ACCESS
Students in third through fifth grades will receive a report card each grading period. The purpose of grading is to share student progress with parents and students. This progress reflects understanding and mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The TEKS are the state curriculum standards, which are based on national standards.
Progress Reports
Progress reports will be issued at the midpoint (4 to 4 1⁄2 weeks) of each grading period starting with the 2nd 9 weeks. However, parents may check their child's grades at any time using PISD's Parent Portal.
Report Cards
Report cards are issued on the district designated date and may not be issued any earlier. If a student has been enrolled for more than 20 days, a report card will be issued.
Weighting of Grades
Third - Fifth Grade
Starting in the 20-21 school year, there will be no weighting of grades at the Elementary level.
Numerical Grades
Numerical Grades (0 - 100) are assigned in grades three through five for the following subjects:
Reading / Literacy
Mathematics
Science / Health
Social Studies
Letter Grades
Letter Grades (E, S, N, U) are assigned in grades three - five for the following subjects:
Handwriting
Music
Art
Physical Education
The letter grades (E, S, N, U) for these subjects are defined as follows:
Excellent: Masters the TEKS for the grade level assignment; completes most assignments; consistently produces work of an outstanding quality.
Satisfactory: Masters the TEKS for the grade level assignment; completes most assignments; consistently produces work of a satisfactory quality.
Needs improvement: Masters, with difficulty, the TEKS for the grade level assignment; minimally passing; completes some assignments; needs frequent reteaching of skills and concepts to achieve mastery.
Unsatisfactory: Fails to achieve 70% mastery of the TEKS for the grade level assignment; completes little or no assignments; continues to have difficulty mastering skills and concepts despite repeated reteaching and tutoring.
Citizenship & Work Habits/Study Skills
The letter grades (E, S, N, U) for these areas are defined as follows:
Excellent: Serves as a role model of citizenship & character traits, provides consistently outstanding demonstration of lifelong learner traits, and completes assigned work on time.
Satisfactory: Understands and demonstrates citizenship & character traits and lifelong learner traits, and completes most assigned work on time.
Needs improvement: Understands and demonstrates citizenship & character traits and lifelong learner traits to some degree, and assigned work is not always completed on time.
Unsatisfactory: Understanding and demonstration of citizenship & character traits and lifelong learner traits is not satisfactory, and assigned work is often incomplete and late.
