Set both your personal dog and your foster dog up for success.
This video offers step by step best practices for introducing dogs.
It is not hard but can take a bit of time, being patient with this process will pay off!
Even if your dog is used to other dogs, you do not know what your new foster's tolerance level is.
Take it slow.
Meet on neutral ground first.
Go for a short walk, each dog taking turns being in front.
BUTT SNIFFS FIRST!! Don't let them go nose to nose right away. Let them sniff each other's behinds for a few seconds, then walk away. If it went well, circle around for another few seconds of sniffs.
After sniffs, take on another small walk so they are next to each other during walk.
Watch everyone's body language.
NEVER leave your foster dog and your personal dog alone together for at least the first few weeks. We also recommend keeping them separated when you are not home or able to have eyes on them.
