We take the adoption process very seriously. We want to ensure our Pip’s Squad - and Pip Squeaks go to the best home for them!
If you are out and about with your foster dog OR at an adoption event and a potential asks about your foster dog, please give them the information about your foster dog and PIPs name and website. Please refrain from setting up another meeting with the potential adopter till their application is approved.
Once we receive an application we check the following
Check for any red flags
Can they have a dog where they live
If they have other dogs, is their dogs kept up to date on vaccines and preventatives
We check personal and vet references
If they have given up a dog previously, what was the reason and does this fit into our guidelines
Have an in depth conversation with our adoption counselor
Once their app has been approved we will connect them with the foster families of any dogs they wish to meet
Please respond to any applications within 48 hours or receiving them
If you get multiple applications for your foster dog
Pick out the best fit for your dog. You know your foster dog and you know whats going to be a good fit
Only set up 2-3 meetings
Be upfront and honest with your potential adopters letting them know that you have multiple meetings set and you will not make a decision until all meetings have taken place
Any apps you are not setting up a meeting with, please let them know you have meetings scheduled and you will reach back out to them soon
After all meetings have taken place, please email the adoption team (Adoptapip@Pipsrescue.org) with who you want to move forward with.
We must hear from you and the potential adopter in order to finalize the application
You will get an confirmation email from the adoptions team re-connecting you and the adopter to schedule a pick up of the pup
DO NOT schedule or allow your foster dog to go to the adopters home until you have heard from PIPs letting you know the application is finalized. In order for us to finalize, we must get payment and an adoption contract signed. We can not allow any fosters to go to their new home without this.
Once the app as been finalized, please reach out to any other meetings you had or applications you have , cc Adoptapip@Pipsrescue.org , let them know you choose another family who was a good fit for your foster dog. We will take over from there and offer other dogs for them to meet
We try and leave meetings up to the foster but do have some tips
You can meet at your home, a neutral place or at the adopters home - what ever is going to be best for your foster
All members of the home should be present
Your foster dog MUST meet with the adopters dogs. The first meeting of dogs should be on neutral ground. Use the tips in Introducing your new foster to your dog
Watch the reaction between the dogs, it might not be love at first site, but they need to be at least neutral
If you think your foster or the adopters needs it, schedule a second meeting
After the meeting, ask the adopters to talk about it and be sure everyone is on the same page and this dog fit what they want
Ask all the questions during your interaction with the potential adopter. You are your fosters advocate and you know where their best furever home will be.
If potential adopters ask you about a trial, please let them know that all adoptions have a...<<what is the process for money back. 2 weeks?>>
Just because the application is approved does NOT mean you can leave your foster dog with the potential adopters. The adoption is not finalized yet. I repeat DO NOT LEAVE YOUR FOSTER DOG WITH ANYONE UNLESS WE SAY TO DO SO.
