The Parker Road Review was founded in 2021 by two members of Pingry's English faculty in an effort to showcase the very best of the school's student writing in the humanities. The idea was inspired by former Pingry English teacher and current Pingry Head of School Timothy Lear, who noted to his colleagues the value of celebrating excellence in student writing and modeling effective process-based strategies. Parker Road not only displays the results of process writing; it provides students the opportunity to engage in process in its most rigorous form - peer review.
Before they become Parker Road articles, student writing begins as papers composed for Pingry's humanities classes or Humanities Independent Research Teams (HIRT). Each article published in Parker Road is submitted by the students themselves, either independently or after faculty recommendation. Following submission, our editorial board reviews the articles for content and style and designates them "publication ready," "revise and resubmit," or "pending more extensive review." The majority of articles fall into the category of "revise and resubmit," initiating a process of extensive collaboration between editorial board members and each student scholar. As a result, students have the opportunity to revisit previously submitted work and refine their craft.
Submissions follow the most up-to-date edition of the Parker Road Style Guide.
When Pingry students submit academic writing for course credit, they acknowledge adherence to the school Honor Code. This commitment to honor and academic integrity extends to The Parker Road Review as well.
