Invertebrates are cold-blooded organisms without backbones.(2) Invertebrates can vary in size and some have hard exoskeletons for protection.(1) They also have no lungs as they breath through their skin.(1) All vertebrates evolved from invertebrates.(3) They are the most diverse kinds of organisms on the earth.(2) Theses different species of invertebrates live in many different environments, both on land and in the water.(2) They are also part of many different phylums such as Porifera, Mollusca, Cnidaria, and Echinodermata. On land many of the invertebrates are insects or arthropods.(1)
