Species 1:
Giant kelp - Macrocystis Pyrifera(2)
Niche:(1) It is the the main organism that dominates the ecosystem; it is the basis of the whole ecosystem. It also provides shelter and homes the animals that come to and inhabit the forest. Since the kelp is so tall, it also cause shade that will slow growth of organisms below the canopy.
Adaptations:(3) Giant kelp releases trillions of spores to be sure that a fraction of them will mature to become adults
Life cycle:(1) about 12-14 months
1. Meiosis produce haploid microscopic flagellated zoospores
2. Become either male or female haploid gametophytes which produce male or female gametes
3. Gametes combine to make diploid sporophytes which grow to macroscopic size
Species 2: Rockweed or Desmarestia ligulata
Habitat: They dwell in marine environments, sometimes reaching from the ocean floor to its surface. attached to rock, coral, or other firm surfaces in kelp forests.
Niche: They are an important constituent of some brackish water ecosystems, and it also releases polyphenols into the water that discourages the growth of bacteria and epiphytes into the ecosystem.
Adaptation: Desmarestia ligulata is able to adapt light-harvesting pigments in their downwelling light environments
