Project Description: In this project, we used Fusion 360 to create a personalized soap piece to gift someone on Valentines Day. The project dimensions are 2-3" in. of diameter and 1-1.5" in. of height. The design includes an image and a tagline that is specific to the soap.
Brainstorm: This is my first brainstorm and sketch on how my project would look like. I did mine about a singer and made 2 references to her. The tagline is "Are you Solya? Because I fly to Heaven like a butterfly when I'm with you." Solya is a singer, Heaven is one of her songs, and Butterflies is the name of her fans.
Prototype 1: This was the first design I cadded out in Fusion 360. I made it on a circle, the soap, but there were some things I could change.
Prototype 2: This is my improved design. I made the shape of the soap the butterfly instead of the circle. I also altered some parts of the butterfly that would be hard to 3D print.
First Print: This is my first print. I liked it a lot but it was too small. The diameter wasnt big enough and it wasnt 1-1.5 inches tall.
Second Print: This is my second print. I made the diameter bigger and I made it taller. I also customized it and added Solya's name in the middle.
Mold: Here, we rolled a blue paste and pressed it around the print. I pressed it into all the details and waited for it to dry. Once I took it off, it was ready for me to put soap in it.
Soap: Now, I poured the soap that Ms. Tran melted into the mold. I filled it to the top and put one drop of food coloring in. I mixed it around to make a marble look and I made sure there were no bubbles. Next class, I would take the soap out.
Final Product: This is the final product. I think the soap turned out amazing, but the text is a little hard to see, especially on camera. But I really like it and I love the color! Im surprised the antennas didn't break off. I think that I could've done better with the text though, it's not very visible.
SOUL Reflection
S-Strength: I think my strength on this project was my designing in Fusion 360. I really got to get familiar and good with Fusion and I helped many people with Fusion.
O-Opportunities: An opportunity I could have taken to improve this project was double checking everything before I printed. On my first print, the base of the 3D printer was wrong and the print went everywhere. I emailed Ms. Tran and she helped me reprint it the next day. But, after the first successful print, I found out it was too small and I should've checked the dimensions beforehand.
U-Understanding: This project really helped me get comfortable with Fusion 360. Before this project, I preferred TinkerCAD over Fusion because Fusion was so complicated and hard. But with lots of practice, I got used to Fusion and I'm very comfortable with it now and I think that I'm pretty good at it.
L-Limitations: One limitation I had on this project was printing. On my first print, the grid wasn't correct, and it created spaghettis. On my second print, the dimensions weren't correct. Because printing takes so long, it took up a lot of my class time and it took me a while to fix things.
WISCR: WISCR traits I believe I demonstrated were Insightful Thinker and Self Motivated. I demonstrated insightful thinking because once I finished planning my sketch, I immediately went to work and thought about how I would make the butterfly in Fusion 360 and I planned out my class periods to what I would do each time. I demonstrated self motivation because many times, I was struggling but I motivated myself to keep going.
