Description: I designed and created two animals that relate to each other in some way with 3D printing and recycled bottle corks. I brainstormed and designed on TinkerCAD and printed with 3D printers. The design process consisted of brainstorming, researching, CADing, 3D printing, and repeating until I was content with the final product.
Brainstorm: I thought of animals with long bodies then thought of what they relate to. Then I searched up CorkPal animals to inspire me. I love arctic animals so I eventually ended with a seal and a polar bear.
Design: I designed the animals on TinkerCAD until I was satisfied with how it looked.
Seal Design
Polar Bear Design
Procedure: Seal
Prototype 1
I printed the bottom of the seal first to see how it would turn out and it was perfect! I didn't need to change anything.
Prototype 2
Then, I printed the head to test it out. It also fit perfectly! I didn't need to change anything.
Procedure: Polar Bear
Prototype 1
The head fit on really well but I thought this looked kind of off.
Prototype 2
Then I put the bottom half on. It fit well but then I realized it looked bad because of the paws. They didn't look like paws at all, and I forgot to add paws to the top half.
Polar Bear Redesign:
I redesigned the paws and added some to the top half.
Procedure: Polar Bear
Prototype 1
It fit on perfectly and the paws were sooo cute!
Prototype 2
It also fit on perfectly and it looks so much better now!
Finished Products:
I think this looks so cute! It's a big long, but I love it!
This one's my favorite! Everything fits so well, and its so cute!
Reflection: SOUL and WISCR
S - Strength: I needed strength in this project because making the designs were very hard and I had to push through. It took me many tries to get the designs right.
O - Opportunity: I had many opportunities to improve and fix my design when I did something wrong.
U - Understanding: I learned how to use many more TinkerCAD features such as the "Align" tool.Â
L - Limitations: A limit for me was that the seal was kind of hard to make in TinkerCAD because there aren't many shapes I could work with in general, so I had to use the "Scribble" tool.
WISCR: I used the S in WISCR, self motivation, because I was motivated to finish the product and make the best I could. Sometimes I wanted to give up but I pushed myself and finished with my two successful Cork Pals. I also used the R, respect(ful), because I paid attention to the teacher, followed instructions well, and took advice from my teacher and peers.
