Even lane lines can't keep us apart
In this project we used what we have learned in Fusion360 to design a soap bar for someone we care about, and added a pickup line or a catchphrase to the soap for Valentines Day. We created the design for the soap in Fusion360, then printed it out and created a mold for the soap.
Step 1: Brainstorming:
First we brainstormed to come up with our designs for the soap. I decided to make mine for my friend on my swim team. We like to joke that we will always find ways to communicate with each other at practice, even when my coach puts us in different lanes, so I decided that it would say, "even lane lines can't keep us apart."
This is the brainstorm I did on Procreate.
Step 2: 1st Prototype:
We designed our soap in Fusion360. I changed it up a lot from my original brainstorm. Then we printed them.
Step 3: 2nd Prototype:
After seeing my first design, I realized that the text on my soap may not come out on the mold, so I changed the font a little bit in my design and printed it again.
Step 4: Final and molding:
I had to fix the text again to make it even bolder, then I printed my final one so I could start molding.
We used silicone mold to make the mold for our soap and left it to dry.
Step 5: Pouring soap:
After my mold dried and I patched up any holes in the mold, I poured in the liquid soap. I did the lavender scent and a baby blue/teal color.
Final product:
Once my soap was dry, I peeled it out of the mold, packaged it up, and gave it to my friend.
Reflection:
S - Strength: I think my strength during my project was creating the design. After learning how to use Fusion360 this unit, I think that I have learned a lot and understand a lot better now, so designing my soap wasn't as hard as it would have been at the beginning.
O - Opportunities for improvement: I think that it would have helped me if I had made the lettering bigger from the beginning because I had to fix it multiple times and reprinting it that many times took a lot of time out of the process.
U - Understanding - What I learned: I think I learned a lot about Fusion360 and am now a lot more comfortable with it. before this project, I understood how to use it, but after doing this project in it, I'm a lot more confident in using Fusion360.
L - Limitations I encountered: I think the hardest part of this project was figuring out how to make the text show on the soap. in the end, it worked out alright, but it still wasn't as clear as I had wanted it.
WISCR: I think during this projected I showed the I and C in WISCR. The I stands for insightful and critical thinker and I think I showed that because when something wasn't working out while I was designing my soap, I was able to figure out how to fix it and make it better. The C stands for clear communicator and I think I showed that because I was able to communicate with Ms. Tran when I needed help so that I could fix what needed to be fixed.
