We are asked to choose one important person in our life to express our love and appreciation by creating a beautiful and thoughtful design. It will be made into a small piece of soap using a silicone mold that we will learn how to create. Each student will make at least 2 pieces of soap using the reusable silicone mold. Along with our design, we must come up with a catchy tagline that goes with it. We will use the Design Thinking technique to research, brainstorm, CAD, prototype, test, and repeat the process to enhance your design. Our project must be 2”- 3” in diameter and 1”- 1.5” tall.
Brainstorming:
My soap mold is Hello Kitty, and it is intended for Kitty Gu. This is the sketch from Procreate. I chose this because Kitty loves Hello Kitty. It will be 3 inches long and about 2 inches wide, with about one inch depth. The updated tagline will be "Are you Hello Kitty? Bcuz you look cute!" This tagline will go on the packaging. I will use Fusion 360, and there will also be a spear gripped in Hello Kitty's left hand.
Procedure:
I CADed it on Fusion 360. This is the first prototype of Hello Kitty. There is a hole in the left hand for the spear. The Hello Kitty is 3 inches long and about 1 inch deep.
Next, I 3D printed the Hello Kitty and the spear on Bambu Handy. The Hello Kitty failed the first two times, but succeeded on the third try, taking 44 minutes. The spear had to be reprinted to fit in the hole, taking nine minutes. I 3D printed the Hello Kitty twice, in white and in black, with the black one having a slightly larger hole in the hand.
Above, is the revised spear, original Hello Kitty (white), prototype 2 Hello Kitty (black) with a larger hole for the spear, and a side view of the spear in Hello Kitty's hand.
This is the mold for the Hello Kitty. It is made from silicon plastique. I removed the Hello Kitty, and although the spear was difficult to remove, it looked very good.
My soap is vanilla scented and is pastel pink. It is this color because this is Kitty's favorite color. It is vanilla-scented. It is made with goat milk and it is all-natural. I added one drop of red food coloring, so it would be pink not red, and then mixed it. I tried to get a marble affect, but I mixed a bit more than necessary because I wanted to get color to the bottom.
My final product is below. It is wrapped in plastic, with multiple angles to display its size and appearance. It is pink, vanilla-scented, and Hello Kitty because they are Kitty's favorites. The spear isn't present because it cannot come out of the mold. (The head is thicker than the body of the spear, so it cannot come back out of the hole made by the spear's body).

Reflections:
S: My strengths were the design and CADing of the Hello Kitty, where I stuck with my first design from the very beginning
O: I could've figured out how to round the edges, and I also could've added text on Hello kitty's torso.
U: I learned how to use the trace/sketch tool, how to make a mold, and how to CAD further in Fusion 360.
L: A limitation I encountered was the spear not fitting into the hand hole. I fixed this by making the hole bigger, and making the spear smaller.
WISCR: I used insightful and critical thinking to develop solutions to any problems I faced through exploration, critical analysis, and the effective application of my knowledge. I was also a respectful individual of character by making sure the recipient of the soap would like everything, and by respecting others' and their ideas for their soap.
