Virtru Email Encryption
What is it?
Virtru is a provider of email and file encryption services that helps safeguard sensitive information.
When do I use it?
A staff member should use Virtru when they need to send sensitive or confidential information via email, such as:
Student Grades and Personal Information: To protect student records and personal details from unauthorized access.
Sensitive Communications with Parents or Guardians: When sharing private information regarding a student’s performance, behavior, or well-being.
Compliance with Regulations: To ensure compliance with laws like FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), which mandates the protection of student data.
Collaborating with Colleagues: When exchanging sensitive teaching materials, assessments, or student-related information with other educators or staff members.
Preventing Data Breaches: To ensure that any email attachments containing sensitive data are securely encrypted, preventing accidental sharing or unauthorized access.
Virtru helps teachers protect the privacy and confidentiality of information they share, whether inside or outside the classroom.
Remember, check your email with care! If you receive an email from an unknown sender, or if it seems suspicious in any way, report the email using the PhishNotify+ button. This will allow the Tech Department to safely review the email.
