Braiding Sweetgrass VLC - Spring 2024

About the book:

In addition to her central argument “that the awakening of ecological consciousness requires the acknowledgement and celebration of our reciprocal relationship with the rest of the living world”, Kimmerer holds a fruitful discussion that aligns with HSI values. Her “life as an indigenous scientist, and as a woman” provides the lens in which she discusses student identity in academia, the place that humanities and tradition have in scientific discovery, and the importance of language in relation to our understanding of the world. Kimmerer is an excellent example of writing not only being integral to the sciences, but to our humanity as a whole.
