Toén, Spain
In the framework of 5-LIVES project, led by Pildo Labs, a flight campaign was performed in Toén, in the Spanish region of Galicia .
Alongside the main objectives of the demonstration, this flight campaign offered the opportunity to test the initial developments within REAL. Specifically, the sensor box that is being developed within the project, which integrates an on-board computer and an EGNOS GNSS receiver, was loaded on-board the helicopter and performed all flight calculations and data logging as if it was on the RPAS.
This demonstrations served to verify that the technology responds well on an operational environment (including high vibrations, high dynamics and big temperature ranges), and that continuous system operation can be expected (the total flight time was over three hours).
Finally, conventional mobile phone communications were successfully tested to provide the low latency and bandwidth that will be expected for REAL own demonstrations. This aspect will be further investigated in different environments (as it depends on in-situ coverage) and different communication needs (to fulfil different autonomy modes of the RPAS).
More details regarding the specific demonstration objectives for 5-LIVES can be found in 5lives.pildo.com.
