Philadelphia Boys Choir auditions on Friday, March 17, 2023!!

My name is Abby Weissman, I work as the out-of-school programs coordinator for the Community Initiatives department at Opera Philadelphia. We offer two totally free programs for teens, our choir, Teen Voices of the City Ensemble (T-VOCE), and a technical theatre training program called Backstage Pass.  More information about the programs is below:

T-VOCE:

T-VOCE is an inclusive choir for creative and caring students aged 13-19. In partnership with ArtSmart, AMLA, Fortress Arts Academy, and Singing City, we are welcoming students to make music and build community through our once-a-week FREE program. Some private voice lessons are also available to members of the ensemble.

We come together on Saturdays (travel via public transit is covered) to rehearse choral pieces from a variety of genres that we perform at showcase concerts. We also perform at a variety of featured events, which have included singing at the sold-out "A Soulful Christmas" concert at the Kimmel Center and performing alongside the Singing City Choir. Backstage Pass:

Backstage Pass is a FREE opportunity for Philly students to develop real-world job skills and knowledge for careers in Technical Theatre.

Over the course of this program, students will meet industry professionals, visit theaters and workshops, and build their skills through professionally taught, hands-on training sessions in the following subjects:

• • • Carpentry 

    • Costumes  

    • Electrics 

    • Stagehand 101 

    • Wigs and Makeup  

    • Creating a Good Resumes and Cover Letter 

    • Personal Finance 

    • Resumes and Cover Letters + LinkedIn

The program will also include site visits to local venues. 

We come together on Monday afternoons (travel via public transit is covered) and will showcase the students' knowledge by creating the technical elements of a performance in April by Opera Philadelphia's youth choir, the Teen Voices of the City Ensemble (T-VOCE). Each participant will receive a $250 stipend upon successful completion of the program.
