Some of the ways the "10 Reasons" are illustrated at Northeast High School:

1. Northeast High School IB (NEIB) students have attended and are attending some of the best colleges in the region: University of Pennsylvania, Lehigh University, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Chicago, Bryn Mawr College, Drexel University, Villanova University, Penn State, Boston University, among others.

2. Our goal in the NEIB Diploma Program is to foster well-rounded individuals that understand that growth as a student includes social, emotional and physical growth.

3. Students leave the NEIB Program better able to navigate the pressures of college and the demands of life. Learning that hard-work, good time management and making mistakes is all part of becoming a life-long learner. We support our students as they struggle through the rigors of the program and promote student ownership of the learning process.

4. Our commitment to promoting an international mindedness in all our students has resulted in highly diverse college experiences. Several of our students have chosen to conduct their undergraduate studies at international schools such as the American University of Rome and Hautes Etudes Internationales Et Politiques in France. In addition, many of our students pursue semesters abroad at their respective institutions.

5. The NEIB is a program within the largest and most diverse school in Philadelphia. We give our students the opportunity to choose from four different language courses while at Northeast. Currently the IB language courses are in Spanish and Italian, but we are growing.

6. A mindset of appreciation and acceptance is fostered in all subject areas in the NEIB Program. We believe that every student brings value to the program despite any differences that they have from one another or from the staff. Agreeing to value one another's differences is central to their experience.

7. While students are not initially prepared for the amount of time IB courses will demand of them they experience a productive learning curve that enables them to grow the skills necessary to address these demands. There is guidance and support from the teachers as they learn these skills.

8. In every IB course at Northeast, students are given an opportunity to learn through individual and independent research. This means of assessment is more about application, critical thinking and inquiry and less about test preparation. Although, there are exams at the end of every course, other more authentic assessments of student understanding are completed throughout the courses.

9. Our NEIB teachers collaborate and work together vertically and horizontally on meaningful interdisciplinary projects and topics with our students. Incorporation of Theory of Knowledge in every class also provides students with the skills of critical examination, reflection and analysis.

10. The full Diploma Program is best described as a liberal arts program in that we expect students to experience the full depth and breadth of all subject areas.
