Digital Literacy & Technology Curriculum
K-8
Teaching Digital Literacy in Elementary & Middle School is of paramount importance in today's digital age.
Digital Literacy equips students with essential skills to navigate the ever-expanding digital landscape, enabling them to find information, communicate effectively, and stay safe online. These skills teach students how to evaluate the credibility and reliability of online information, fostering critical thinking skills necessary for discerning accurate and reliable sources. Students learn to effectively communicate, collaborate, and share ideas using various digital tools, preparing them for the modern workforce, where digital communication is prevalent. Digital literacy emphasizes responsible and safe online behavior, teaching students about privacy, cyberbullying, online scams, and how to protect personal information, ensuring their well-being in the digital realm.
Students develop an understanding of media manipulation, biases, and the impact of digital media on society. They learn to be responsible digital citizens who engage in ethical online behavior and contribute positively to the digital community. Digital literacy provides a foundation for students to develop technological proficiency, ensuring they can adapt to emerging technologies and utilize digital tools effectively throughout their lives. By teaching digital literacy in elementary school, educators empower students to become informed, responsible, and confident digital citizens capable of thriving in an increasingly digital world.
