PSSA Testing

The annual Pennsylvania System School Assessment (PSSA) is a standards-based, criterion-referenced assessment which provides students, parents, educators and citizens with an understanding of student and school performance related to the attainment of proficiency of the academic standards. Every Pennsylvania student in grades 3 through 8 is assessed in English Language Arts and Math. Every Pennsylvania student in grades 4 and 8 is assessed in science.

Please read the following important PSSA information below for students in Grade Kindergarten - 8th Grade:


In-Person Students PSSA Testing Information for students in Grades 3-8:

  • ELA: April 20-22

  • MATH: May 4-5

  • SCIENCE: May 17-18 (Grades 4 & 8 only)

In-Person Students will attend school virtually from home for the days where virtual students are attending school to take the PSSA tests. During these virtual instruction days, students will complete virtual assignments with chat and email support from a teacher. More specific details will be forthcoming from your classroom teacher(s). The dates for virtual learning for in-person students are as follows:

  • April 27 - 29

  • May 11 & 12

  • May 19 & 20 (Grades 4 & 8 only)



Virtual Student PSSA Testing Information for students in Grades 3-8:

  • ELA: April 27-29

  • MATH: May 11-12

  • SCIENCE: May 19-20 (Grades 4 & 8 only)

Please note that students attending PHCSE virtually will attend the school building ONLY for days that they are to take the assessment. It is imperative that each family completes this form so that we know whether to register your child’s transportation through your home school for the days of virtual student PSSA testing. Bus transportation can ONLY be provided if this form is filled out by Monday, April 5.



Virtual Student PSSA Testing Information for students in Grades Kindergarten - 2nd Grade:

Please note that no school schedule changes occur for students attending grades kindergarten through 2nd grade. Students in these grades who usually attend in-person usually will continue to do so, and those attending school virtually will also continue to attend virtually. For virtual learning students, teacher communication and instruction will occur via chat, email, and limited live support. Related services, such as speech/language, will also be available during this time. More details about your child’s specific schedule will be forthcoming from your classroom teacher(s).
