On Friday, June 7, we celebrate a very special day as our scholars in Kindergarten end their year and prepare for their next as First Graders. We at PHCSE are so very proud of our scholars, as well as their teachers and families who continue to support them along the way. In the spirit of entrepreneurship we are preparing them to be the leaders of tomorrow. Congratulations!
Friday June 14, was a momentous day for our scholars. Not only was it the last day of school, but it was also the celebration of our second annual Eighth Grade Promotion. Our scholars worked hard during this school year, and they persevered. Supported by their parents, staff, and the community we have created, these scholars say farewell to us at Penn Hills Charter School of Entrepreneurship, but they will enter their ninth grade year prepared and strong from the knowledge they gained at PHCSE.
Best of luck to the class of 2019, and congratulations for all of your hard work!
Students Become Published Authors, Writing and Illustrating Their Own Books
Publishing Party and Book Viewing Planned
Penn Hills Charter School of Entrepreneurship has announced that 42 of its students have become published authors through a national student publishing program. As part of the publishing process, students in 3rd grade planned, wrote, and illustrated their own books using a free publishing kit provided by Studentreasures Publishing. The topic of their books were, "Dream Big" and "In the Year 2028."
The students have been working hard on their books for weeks. The idea for their book started when students brainstormed ideas in class about interesting topics to write about.
The Studentreasures publishing program provides teachers an easy way to incorporate any lesson plan – from math and science to history, art, and more – into a fun and memorable activity. Publishing a book in the classroom engages students through hands-on learning and inspires a love of reading and writing.
The best part? A classroom full of proud, smiling young authors, with a memory that lasts a lifetime, plus, a full-color, deluxe hardcover book for the teacher or school library. The students’ parents also have an option to purchase copies of these unique, childhood keepsakes.

The 8th grade class had the opportunity to travel to our nation's capital, Washington D.C., and also had the opportunity to visit Hershey Park during the first week of June. During the two days that PHCSE staff and students were in Washington D.C. they had the opportunity to explore the African American History Museum, as well as the Holocaust Museum where they met and learned the personal stories of three Holocaust survivors. The trip was also filled with stops to some of the most well-known monuments such as the Lincoln memorial, the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial, and the World War II memorial. The stay in Washington D.C. culminated with a visit to George Washington's childhood home, in Mt. Vernon Virginia, where students and staffed toured the house that George Washington grew up in and then eventually shared with his wife Martha and their children. The overnight trip provided our 8th grade students with a wonderful educational opportunity and experiences that they will always remember.
