2nd Grade Math

This month in Math, Second grade finished up our “Tell and Write Time” unit by doing a craft picking our favorite time of the day! Students made a clock and wrote a short paragraph about their favorite time of day and why they love that time of the day.

5th Grade Math

Throughout this month, Fifth Grade Math students explored creating fraction equations on a digital Geoboard. Mrs. Pucka attend the AIU’s Math for Struggling Learners Professional Development Series in February and she brought this activity back to use in her classroom. The students enjoyed exploring the digital platform and were encouraged to explore fractions abstractly. Use the link below if you would like to explore geoboards with your math scholars.

6th Grade Science:

In class, sixth graders are learning about genetics and mutations. Our genetic material is held within the DNA of our body cells, which tell our cells how to look, function, and jobs to perform. As a demonstration, we took strawberries and broke them down to extract their DNA.

Prep Academy Science:

Eighth grade has been studying phases of the moon so in order to help them model this, each of them received a styrofoam ball on a wooden rod, to represent the moon, and a lamp was set up in the center of the room to represent the sun. They then had to orbit the lamp in order to understand the different phases of the moon respective to Earth’s position around the sun.
