Late assignments will be accepted with no grade penalty for one (1) week after the assigned due date. No late classwork will be accepted after one (1) week after the original due date. This one (1) week time frame is also in alignment with the after school Homework Intervention program guidelines
Late assignments may be turned in up to one week after the assigned due date, but it will be marked as “Late” (red), “Missing” (yellow), and scored as a zero (0) in the PowerSchool grade program until turned in.
Once turned in, the “Missing” mark will be removed and the earned grade entered. There will be no grade penalty. The “Late” mark will remain, however, for tracking purposes only. Teachers may also leave a comment indicating when the assignment was turned in.
If the assignment is not turned in after the week-long grace period, then the zero will remain as the earned score.
Work that is missing due to excused absences will be marked “Absent” (green) and “Missing” (yellow) , however, if the work is not turned in after the allowed extra time, then it will be considered “Late”, and the above consequences will begin to apply.
EXAMPLES FOR CLARIFICATION:
EX 1: Johnny’s math worksheet is due Monday. He doesn’t turn it in on Monday. Mrs. Bird marks that assignment as “Late”, “Missing”, and puts a zero (0) in the Powerschool Gradebook. Johnny turns the paper in on Tuesday. Mrs. Bird grades the paper and removes the “Missing” mark, and replaces the zero (0) with the earned grade of 9/10 points. The “Late” mark remains so that Mrs. Bird can see that so far Johnny has had eight late assignments this nine-week period and can let his parents know during Parent/Teacher Conferences.
EX 2: Jenny’s English online essay was assigned on Monday, but due Wednesday. She gets it done on Tuesday, but forgets to submit it on Google Classroom on Wednesday. Mrs. Ceaglske marks that assignment as “Late”, “Missing”, and puts a zero (0) in the Powerschool gradebook app. Jenny realizes her mistake on Friday and clicks “submit”, but doesn’t tell Mrs. Ceaglske. Mrs. Ceaglske removes the marks and enters a grade on Monday morning, when she checks grades.
EX 3: Jimmy’s Science assignment is not turned in on time on Thursday. Mrs. Fulecki marks the assignment as “Late”, “Missing”, and puts a zero (0) in the Powerschool Gradebook. Mrs. Fuleki asks Jimmy where his assignment is on Friday, and he still doesn’t turn it in. On Monday, Jimmy still does not have it done. Then the administration assigns him After-school Homework Intervention for Wednesday, per the school’s policy, and he completes the assignment. He turns it in on Thursday, a week after its due date. Mrs. Fulecki grades the paper and removes the “Missing” mark, and replaces the zero (0) with the earned grade of 80%. The “Late” mark remains so that Mrs. Fulecki can see that so far Jimmy has had twelve late assignments this nine-week period and she calls to inform parents.
EX 4: Janey is sick and doesn’t come to school on Tuesday. Mr. Travis assigns the class a Google Form assignment that day, due on Wednesday. When Janey returns, she sees that she missed an assignment, and will do it that night to turn it in on Thursday. Mr. Travis marks the assignment as “Absent” and “Missing”, but leaves the score blank. That night Janey forgets to do the work, and on Thursday does not submit it. Mr. Travis keeps the “Absent” and “Missing” mark there, but adds “Late”, and puts a zero (0) in the Powerschool Gradebook. Friday, Janey submits the assignment, Mr. Travis grades the form, removes the “Missing” mark, and replaces the zero (0) with the earned grade of 100%. The “Late” mark remains so that Mr. Travis can see that so far Janey has only one other late assignment this nine-week period and is not too worried.
EX 5: Jamey is gone for a week long vacation, which is an unexcused absence. Before leaving, he is told what assignments he will miss. Since the absence is unexcused, all that work he misses is due the day he gets back. Teachers mark his work as “Absent” until he gets back on Friday. When Jamey gets back, he has none of his work done. All teachers mark those assignments as “Late” and “Missing”, and put zeroes (0) in the Powerschool Gradebook. It could be possible that some of Jamey’s work may not be accepted if it was a week since the assignment was due.
