The number of books your child will check out depends on their individual needs. Typically, students who are working towards an AR goal need to check out 1 fiction and 1 nonfiction title on their reading level. They are also allowed to check out a "bonus book" that can be any level or a non-testable book. We are no longer setting strict limits on the number of books a student checks out. We monitor their records and make decisions accordingly. If a child forgets to return their library books, they are still allowed to check out, we just ask that you continue to work on finding and returning books in a timely fashion. We are working on building critical thinking skills and responsibility.

We ask that students ask these questions when considering the number of books they check out:

  • Will I be able to read the books I'm checking out before the next time I come to the library?

  • Do I have space in my book bag to safely store my books?

  • Am I ready to be responsible with the books that I want to check out?

Our PK students will keep their books at school. Students k-5 should always keep books in book bags when not in use. This helps keep them safe and ensures that your child will always have something to read. PLEASE do not place water bottles inside of book bags with library books. Water bottles should be in an outside pocket or carried.

If a book is damaged, please return it to the library and hand it to a librarian. We may be able to repair the book. If the book is beyond repair or lost, please let us know! We will contact you with information on cost. Please do not attempt to replace the lost or damaged book as we have to ensure we purchase a library bound book from vendors to ensure it will withstand circulation. Typically, we would like to wait until later in the school year to pay for lost books in the event that the book is found!
