Graduate Profile

Reflection Pages

What is it?

You will choose one element of the Graduate profile that you believed you grew in or gained mastery of so far this school year. For reference, the graduate profile skills you have to choose from are:

From the list above, you will pick one option you have not chosen previously, then write a 3-paragraph reflection on your growth or mastery of that skill.  You will also provide a piece of evidence (a visual and description of your artifact) that helps to show that growth/mastery.

How Do I Write It?

In order to complete your 3-paragraph reflection, you will answer these three prompts with a paragraph written for each.

Prompt #1 - Description : Explain how you have either mastered or improved yourself within the Graduate Profile Skill you chose above.

For this prompt, you just want to describe how you got better with whatever skill you chose from the list above. Think about the following questions when you answer this:

Prompt #2 - Proficiency : Describe how this skill will help you to be college/career ready

The core reason we do the high school portfolio is to create snapshots of who you are at a point in time. Knowing who are allows you to look forward to who you want to be. In this section, you will explain why the skill you improved in might help you in your future college journey or your career field you look forward to undergoing. This time, think about these questions/suggestions:

Prompt #3  - Preparation: Describe a moment from this semester that demonstrates this chosen Grad Profile skill.  Provide specific examples that support your mastery or improvement.  This description can relate to an academic best work, a key life experience, and/or a community service experience. (Your attached best work will serve as an artifact to demonstrate what you say in this box).

Now we get to the proof part. How do you convince your reader that you improved? Here you are  going to give specific examples (e.g. class assignments, projects, quizzes, life experiences or awards) to explain why you have shown your growth. Be sure to do the following :

How Many Do I Have to Do?

At the end of each school year, you will be expected to have two new Graduate Profile Reflection pages completed. Each year, you must select new graduate profile skills to submit (you are allowed to revise old ones if you wish to, but only new Graduate Profile Pages will be scored). This means, at the end of each year, you should have the following completed:

At the End of Freshman Year: Two Graduate Profile Skill Pages Completed

At the End of Sophomore Year: Four Graduate Profile Skill Pages Completed

At the End of Junior Year:  All Six Graduate Profile Skill Pages Completed

How Do I Submit My Pages and Show My Portfolio's Progress?

When you have completed both of the graduate profile pages expected of you, fill out this form. You will be asked to provide your grade level and which two graduate profile skills you worked on this year.  Remember, you will NOT get credit for your Progress Check if you select graduate profile skills you submitted in past years (Note: this does not apply in the 23-24 school year. Please just submit which two you have put onto your website and would like looked at).

If you are finding it difficult to open this form, please ensure that you are logged in to your egusd.net account before opening.

For those graduating in 2024, 2025, or 2026

You may have documents such as the one on the right from past years. If so, please copy and paste your answers from the Google Doc to your new Google Site based on the graduate profile skill you wrote about.

Self-Awareness, Self-Reliance, Self Discipline

Personal statement essay

Grade Level: Senior

Class:   CP English

Teacher:   Mrs. Fischer

Completion Date:   8/31/22

Explain how you have either mastered or improved yourself within the Graduate Profile Skill you chose above.

This semester, I have grown in my ability to be self-reliant and exhibit self-discipline.   I have learned to recognize my strengths and weaknesses at school and in my daily life and I have found ways to use my strengths to help me achieve my goals.  During my Junior year, I discovered that my tendency to procrastinate and failure to manage my time effectively not only affected my grades but also caused a great deal of stress.  At the beginning of this year, I purchased a planner and made a conscious effort to write down every assignment and due date.   This allowed me to budget my time effectively and complete all of my work on time.

Describe how this skill will help you to be college/career ready

The skill of self-awareness, self-reliance and self-discipline will help me to be college ready because a better understanding of myself will help me to set and achieve realistic goals.  When I have a job or assignment to do, I now have the skill to manage my time and get the job done without reminders or nagging from teachers or parents.   Because I am self-reliant, people can count on me to do what needs to be done without assistance or reminders.

Examples

My Personal Statement Essay is one specific example of how I demonstrated Self-reliance and self-discipline.  When we were given the essay prompt,  I recorded the due date in my planner and also included dates for completing specific sections of that essay.  I researched effective college admission essays, created an outline for my essay and wrote several drafts before completing the final essay a week before the due date.
