Congratulations! You are now a senior at Pleasant Grove High School! The Portfolio documents that you have been diligently creating and collecting since the ninth grade are finally going to be put to use this school year. This year, your English 12 teacher will assist you in completing your Reflective Research Essay, assembling your final Portfolio, and preparing for your oral presentation. At the end of this year, your Portfolio will be examined by the PGHS faculty and staff who will score it based the Portfolio rubric.
Your final Portfolio grade is worth 5% of your Term 2 English 12 grade. Completing this portfolio and submitting a link to the website by the assigned due date will make you eligible to complete your Senior Presentation (which is worth 10% of your senior English grade). Conversely, student that do not complete a portfolio, and turn it in by the assigned due date will NOT be eligible to do their Senior Presentation.
You will present your Portfolio at the end of April to a panel of judges consisting of teachers, administrators, parents, and other PGHS staff members. Your final portfolio must contain a reflection window and supporting evidence for each of the graduate profile skills: Creative Problem Solving, Self-awareness, Sel-reliance, Self-discipline, Technical Literacy, Collaboration & Communication, Community Engagement and Integrity.
The purpose of the Portfolio:
A collection of material that represents student's college/career readiness
A guide for the Reflective Research Essay, and High School Portfolio oral presentation
Material to be used as a reference for jobs and/or college.
This assignment will be completed in English
In conjunction with your Portfolio, you will also produce a Reflective Research Paper which is worth 10% of your Term 2 English 12 grade. This paper will explore your academic growth, your community service experiences, and your emerging future plans. In keeping with PGHS English department standards, the paper must achieve a 1500 word minimum length. An acceptable essay will synthesize the four research components of the Portfolio, including assignments, community service logs, Reflection Windows and Best Works, as well as independent career path research.
Research source guidelines:
No encyclopedias (unless specialized encyclopedias such as medical, sports, automobile, etc.)
Maximum of 2 personal interviews of people with expertise in the field
**An acceptable essay will reflect on the four research components of the Portfolio:
CCGI Assignments
Community Service
Reflective Windows of your Best Works
Career Path Research
The culminating activity for your High School Portfolio will be your presentation. For students that successfully completed, and submitted their Portfolio prior to the due date, will be given an opportunity to give their senior presentation. During the last week in April, you will make a formal presentation about your Portfolio to a panel of PGHS faculty and staff members. Every student in the senior class will be scheduled at 20 minute intervals all day for four days. It is important for you to review the presentation dates with your family and reserve all four dates, because special requests for presentation dates and times will not be considered due to the large senior class. In this presentation, you will describe how your Best Work assignments, CCGI assignments and career research, community service activities, awards, achievements and and newly acquired skills or life-changing experiences support the following categories: growth, strengths, and future goals and plans. You should plan to be rehearsed and professional in your manner, dress, and appearance. Since this is your last big performance of your high school career, shouldn’t it be your most brilliant?
Minimum Requirements of the Oral Presentation:
Your presentation must…
Be eight to eleven minutes in length, with a five minute question and answer period.
Include a visual and/or audio aid to provide physical evidence and support.
Address each of the following categories growth, strengths, and future plans and goals providing examples of how your course work, experiences, activities and honors completed while attending PGHS supports each category.
