A letter reflecting back on your year at PGHS.
All students in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grade are required to complete a Summative Letter at the end of each school year. All of these letters will aid in the creation of your Reflective Research Essay and Capstone Presentation, so it is imperative that you keep copies of your letters in your Google Drive as you progress in high school.
Alongside being used in the presentation itself, your Summative Letter will be the foundation for your grade in Advocacy during the spring semester. You will earn a pass for your Advocacy class should you earn at least a 7/10 on your summative letter (rubric can be found at the bottom of this page).
Minimum Length Requirement:
9th grade: 650 words 10th & 11th: 850 words
NOTE: Your submission will NOT be graded if it does not meet the required word count.
Prompt:
You will write a reflection that sums up your year.
What goes in the letter?
In order for the summative letter to be scored, ALL aspects of the letter must be relevant to the prompt AND maintain a professional tone.
Paragraph #1 - Introductory Paragraph
5-8 complete sentences
Introduce yourself including your grade level
Include some information about yourself and this school year.
How was this school year?
What challenges did you face?
How did you grow as a student and a person?
What skills did you develop this year?
Paragraph #2 - Graduate Profile Skill #1 -- Academic/Co-curricular/Community Activities
Describe the graduate profile (college/career readiness skill) that you learned/developed/improved this school year.
Describe one or more assignments/activities that required use/development of this graduate profile skill this year.
How did you use/build this skill in completing this work?

You will submit your Summative letter via Google Form.

You must be signed into your EGUSD account in order to submit. In the days following the due date we will be generating Google Docs out of your Form submissions, resulting in you being able to see your Summative Letter in the "Shared With Me" section of your Google Drive.
Your summative letter will be read and scored by a PGHS staff member. The letter must fully address the prompt.

In order to receive a passing Advocacy grade for spring semester, your summative letter must earn a seven or higher.
IF YOUR WORD COUNT IS LESS THAN THE MINIMUM YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT.
