Dear Parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Students,
Welcome back! My name is Kathleen Waronek, and I am the music teacher at Tulip Grove Elementary. Chorus will be starting soon, and I wanted to provide you with some information if your child is interested in participating in our group.
Any 3rd-5th grader who loves to sing, is willing to practice and perform, and who commits to attending weekly practices is welcome to join. All members must exhibit excellent classroom behavior, be able to follow directions, and be able to work as a team. We will have a few performances throughout the school year, and information about these performances will be provided physically, electronically, and via the TGES Chorus tab on my website (https://sites.google.com/pgcps.org/waronek-music/).
Before our rehearsals begin, your child will complete the top half of the audition form by gathering the required signatures. They will also complete an audition with me during their music class. The completion of this form determines their readiness and ability to participate. Auditions are only used to provide students with the experience and to determine their voice part. After completing an audition during music, all students who said they are interested in joining chorus will receive a letter welcoming to chorus, and a form to complete indicating how they will be picked up from after school rehearsals. A spot in chorus is reserved for a student after they turn in a completed transportation form which indicates how students will be picked up from our after school rehearsals. I have space for 40 members in our program this year, and acceptance to our program will be on a first-come basis. You will be notified if your child is in chorus when I receive their form, or if our program is full for the school year.
Practices will be held on Tuesday after school unless special notice is given. This notice will be provided to the students and can also be found via the TGES Chorus tab on my website. The practice time will be 2:30-3:30 every Tuesday in Ms. Waronek’s music room (Room 179).
If your child is interested in chorus, there are several important things to remember.
Attendance is mandatory should your child choose to participate, and punctuality is very important. We need all of our members for a successful rehearsal, because even one missing member can greatly alter our sound. If pickup from rehearsal becomes an issue, it will affect your child’s ability to participate in chorus as well. More than three late pick-ups will result in your child being removed from chorus.
I’m looking forward to auditions, hearing your students sing, and working with all of you. Please take the next week to decide if your child would like to sign up for chorus, and return the completed portion of the audition form if they are interested. Auditions will be held during music class starting on Monday, September 19th, and will be completed in about a week. I am looking forward to an exciting year at school and in chorus!
Sincerely,
Kathlee Waronek
