Grades 3-5

Third Grade

Students in third grade have been building their pattern vocabulary in duple and triple meter and in major, minor, and modal tonalities. They are continuing to build their confidence in improvising by creating different movements and using known patterns in our songs and activities in music class. They are also beginning to identify tonic and dominant functions in major and minor tonalities.

Students are also learning how to play the recorder. We are diligently working on proper playing techniques, covering all the holes to play our notes, and playing musically.

Fourth Grade

Students in fourth grade have been building their pattern vocabulary in duple and triple meter and in major, minor, and modal tonalities. They are continuing to build their confidence in improvising by creating different movements and using known patterns in our songs and activities in music class. They are also beginning to identify tonic and dominant functions in major and minor tonalities. We have also been working on creating a school song!

Fifth Grade

Students in fifth grade are continuing to build their pattern vocabulary in duple and triple meter, major, minor and modal tonalities. They are continuing to build their confidence in improvising by creating different movements to our songs and activities during music classes. They are beginning to identify tonic and dominant functions in major and minor tonalities, and building their ears by playing and singing bass lines that the the teacher has created with their daily songs.

Students have also begun exploring the next steps their rhythmic pattern learning. Students are improvising their own patterns in duple and triple meter using macro and microbeats, and verbally associating the syllables 'du and du-de' with duple meter, and 'du and du-da-di' with triple meter. They are also reading patterns they have been audiating.
