DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for instrumental music students desiring to enhance their musical experience through the study and performance of literature for the smaller instrumental ensemble. High Point offerings are: Steel Drum Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble. Pre-requisite: Players of band and orchestral instruments must be members of the school band or orchestra and must have the approval of the instrumental music teacher.
OBJECTIVES: This course will enable students to:
Gain an appreciation and knowledge of the ensemble and its literature.
Developing skills and technique necessary to perform literature for the chosen ensembles.
Extending sight reading experience.
Continued emphasis on good playing habits.
Refinement of intonation and tone quality.
Understanding the musical terminology included in the materials used in the ensemble.
Listening to selected recordings for comparative interpretations.
SCHEDULING: The class meets on a regularly scheduled basis during the school day.
DESCRIPTION: Marching Band and Pep Band is an extension of the band program. This program is designed to give the director and students a good starting point for learning and developing a deeper appreciation and understanding of marching band styles. These students should be in your band program. Membership in this program is by the approval of the instrumental music teacher.
OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to:
Developing an appreciation and knowledge of marching styles.
Developing skills and technique necessary to perform precision drill.
Extending sight-reading and rhythm pattern reading skills.
Understanding the musical terminology included in drill formation.
Continued emphasis on good playing habits.
Listening/watching professional recordings videotapes of military, corps, and university marching bands.
SCHEDULING: This club meets on a regularly scheduled basis during after school hours.
