Ms. Katrina Joyner, MM. Ed. is a native Texan, clarinetist, and a three-year member of the Texas All-State Band. She pursued music at The University of Houston in Texas, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Music in Education while playing clarinet and bassoon with the Wind Ensemble and Orchestra. She was also a saxophonist and later Drum Major of the University of Houston "Spirit of Houston" Marching Band. Ms. Joyner continued her postgraduate studies at Kent State University, where she received her Master's Degree in Music Education. Her thesis topic aligned with her passion for Culturally Responsive Pedagogy in band and orchestral ensembles.
Ms. Joyner has 17 years of teaching experience combined at the middle and high school levels. Under her direction, her ensembles have received superior ratings from various judges at UIL, large-ensemble assessments, and regional festivals. She also coaches her students in Solo and Ensemble contests, where they have earned superior ratings. Ms. Joyner has also served as a state adjudicator for Maryland and Texas All-State Band Auditions. She will also be the guest conductor for the 2023 Prince George's County Middle School Honor Band.
Ms. Joyner's professional affiliations include Maryland Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education, Texas Music Educators Association, and National Education Association. Ms. Joyner is also a proud alumnus of Tau Beta Sigma, Honorary Band Sorority. She is a pet mom to her 11-year-old senior dog, Kyla, and enjoys tending to her plants.
