Policies & Procedures
In the Friendly High School Media Center, we are always excited to serve students, teachers and parents. To do so effectively and efficiently, please take note of the following policies and procedures:
Media Center Behavior Expectations:
Students are always expected to "Respect Yourself, Respect Others, & Respect the Environment." Respect looks like the following in the media center:
Quietly enter the media center and remain so during your visit.
Respect the people, books, equipment, and furnishings of the media center.
Follow directions as soon as they are given.
Use your shelf marker when you remove a book from the shelf at all times and return it before you leave.
Be prepared to learn something new and exciting each time you visit the media center!
Book Check-in Procedures:
As you enter the library, please place books that you wish to check-in into the Book Drop located below the circulation desk above the sign labeled "Book Drop."
Book Check-out Procedures:
9th - 12th grade students may check out up to two books each week. These books may go home and must be returned or renewed on/before the due date.
Parents may check-out up to three books at a time under their student's name. Please visit the Media Center for more information.
All books can be checked out for up to 14 days at a time.
Students may renew a book if the book has not been reserved for another student or teacher.
Reference materials are not available for check-out and must be used in the library media center.
Students who are unable to borrow from the collection because of overdue books may borrow ebooks through Destiny Online Card Catalog.
Overdue Materials:
Students who have overdue materials are strongly urged to return overdue materials as soon as possible.
Parents/guardians are financially responsible for lost or excessively damaged materials.
Open Check-Out/Unscheduled Visits:
The library media center is open for materials check-out during library hours if the Media Specialist is available to assist. Students and teachers MAY NOT take materials outside of the media center that have not been checked out by library media staff.
Students are able to check-out before their first period class, during lunch (with a library pass only), and after school during extended library times (schedule to be posted soon). Additional check-out times may be added throughout the school year.
A signed and verified hall pass from the classroom teacher is required for any student to be in the media center during the school day.
FHS Book Squad:
FHS Book Squad members are a group of students who consistently help the Library Media Specialist throughout the day to support library administrative tasks. This elite team is appointed based on their character, reliability, schedule availability and faculty recommendations.
The Book Squad consists of 12th grade students who are nominated by their teachers and the Media Specialist.
The Book Squad will be chosen based on the following criteria:
willingness to learn about the library,
ability to complete tasks in a timely manner,
good grades,
excellent conduct,
magnificent character,
superb citizenship and
uncompromising integrity.
