SUMMER VACATION | SCHOOLS CLOSED FOR STUDENTS
Dear Foulois Families,
As we approach the last full week of school, we wanted to remind you of a few important announcements. Please ensure your child has all their belongings ready to bring home as we wind down the academic year. Additionally, keep an eye out for any end-of-year paperwork that may be sent home this week.
As the weather warms up, it's essential to be mindful of the impact this transition can have on our students. The excitement of summer may lead to increased emotions and behaviors in some students as they try to navigate their feelings before the year ends. To support our students during this time, we are focusing on reinforcing strategies for conflict resolution, self-regulation, and staying motivated in school. We encourage you to have conversations with your children about these important topics to promote a peaceful and positive end to the school year.
We are excited to share that the elementary band and orchestra spring concert was a roaring success! Our talented students put on a fantastic performance, showcasing their hard work and dedication to their musical talents. We are incredibly proud of all their accomplishments.
Last week, we also had the pleasure of hosting the 5th-grade picnic and Middle School Athletic Banquet. Both events were filled with joy and wonderful memories, celebrating our students' achievements and teamwork.
Please check the Middle School page for important updates from the administrator, Mr. Hunter. Please check the PTO page for important announcements from the PTO.
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our families for your continued partnership throughout this school year. Your support and involvement in your child's education make a significant difference, and we are truly thankful for the collaborative relationship we share.

Dear Foulois Families,
We hope this newsletter finds you well. As we take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices of many this Memorial Day, let us remember and honor those who have served our country. It's a time to show gratitude for their dedication and bravery.
In other news, we want to celebrate the achievements of our 8th-graders who recently returned from their New York City trip. Of course, our students received high praise for their behavior and engagement during the trip. While waiting for a show, some of our students even had the opportunity to entertain the chaperones, guides, and stage crew with an impromptu dance performance and a captivating 7-minute monologue. We are incredibly proud of them - Go 8th grade!

Dear Foulois Families,
On Monday, April 8th, around 3:00 p.m., the DMV will exerience a partial solar eclipse. The science teachers have decided to take advantage of this historic event to help teach the Earth Science units. The middle school teachers are planning to stay indoors and watch the solar eclipse virtually. The K-5 teachers purchased solar lenses and will take students outside to view the eclipse. We're excited about this great opportunity for students to witness the phonomenal they've studied in science class. At dismissal, we will remind all of our students Kindergarten through 8th grade to go straight to their buses/cars/vans and not to look at the eclipse. We do ask for your support in reminding your students of the possible dangers of looking directly at the eclipse without the proper eye protection. If you have purchased eye protection for your student to wear during recess/dismissal, we support that option as well. [6 Tips on Safe Solar Eclipse Viewing].
Schools and offices are closed this Wednesday, April 10th for Eid al-Fitr. Eid Mubarak to everyone who celebrates. This Friday, April 12th is the last day to purchase a yearbook. Students, parents, and guardians can purchase the 2023-2024 yearbook by tapping this [corrected link.]

Dear Foulois Families,
As we enter the final quarter of the school year. Here are some important announcements and updates for the upcoming week. Please note that schools and offices are closed on Monday, April 1st, in observance of Easter Monday. Tuesday, April 2nd is a half day of asynchronous learning. Primary teachers have sent packets of work for students to complete. For students in other grades, teachers will reach out through their communication platforms to provide information about the day's assignments. These assignments will count towards the fourth quarter grades. In-person instruction will resume on Wednesday, April 3rd. Let's make the most of this last quarter and finish the year strong!
Starting on April 24th, all students in grades 3-8 will be taking the MCAP (Math & RELA State Assessments). We need your help! You are invited to scan the QR Code and fill out the Google Form to write your student a letter of Encouragement which they will read on their first day of testing. Let them know how proud of you are of them, and that they should try hard and do their best! Each student is limited to one message. There are additional entry spaces for families who have more than 1 child in grades 3-8. The final date for submission is Thursday, April 4th. After that, the form will be closed. Shhhhhhh...it is a secret. Questions? elizabeth.schmitt@pgcps.org [Google Form Link]

Each student is limited to one message. There are additional entry spaces for families who have more than 1 child in grades 3-8.
The final date for submission is Thursday, April 4th. After that, the form will be closed.
Shhhhhhh...it is a secret.

Dear Foulois Families,
Every grade level participated in a Black History projects. We enjoyed viewing the work from every creative art and classroom. Thank you parents for helping students complete their projects. Here a sample of some of our favorite artifacts.
Fifth-graders: Research paper on an innovative Black American.
Fourth-graders: Cross-curricular research paper on a notable Black Marylander.
Third-graders: Designed and created T-shirts celebrating famous African-Americans.
Second-graders: Dressed up and role-played as famous Black Americans for their Blacks in Wax Museum.
Everyone learned from and enjoyed viewing the work from students. Thank you, parents, for helping students complete their projects and for your continued support.
March is Women's History Month. We all look forward to seeing how students will celebrate women throughout history.
BDF Academic Profiles: Last week, the BDF Academic profiles went home with all students in grades K-8. For this round, we sent profiles for three subjects Reading, Math, and Science. The purpose is to give parents and guardians a comprehensive picture of how their child is progressing in these subjects. Please view them with your child(ren) and have an honest conversation about their reflection and their goals for third quarter.

Dear Foulois Families,
6th Grade Immunization Letter
Dear Parents and Guardians of Rising 7th Graders:
According to the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene School Health Regulations for the 2024-2025 school year, the following immunizations are required:
Students in grades 7th thru 12th must receive immunization for Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis vaccine) and Meningococcal (MCV4)
Here at BDF, our goal is to have 100% of our current 6th graders meet the immunization requirements before the end of the school year. We are asking that these vaccines be received by May 24, 2024. Once received please provide proof of vaccination to Nurse Duarte. We have a special celebration planned for all of our students who have met the immunization deadline.
For families with insurance, please make the necessary arrangements with your primary care provider. Additionally, local pharmacies and urgent care centers provide immunizations. At this time, we are unaware of any PGCPS sponsored clinics. If you do not have insurance, please contact the local Health Department at 301-583-3300.
If you have any questions or concerns re: the immunization requirements, please do not hesitate to contact Nurse Duarte at Tonita.Duarte@pgcps.org.
Sincerely,
Keshia Hogue
Principal
Second Quarter Awards Ceremonies - DATE CHANGE! - AGAIN
We will be celebrating the achievements of our students in the second quarter with awards ceremonies. An internet outage in Upper Marlboro has delayed the release of the report cards. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please save the NEW dates:
Wednesday, February 21ST: Awards Ceremony for grades Kindergarten through 5th-grade
Tuesday, February 27TH: Awards Ceremony for middle school
Our middle school students have an opportunity to perform at Joint Base Andrews, therefore we will have to reschedule the assembly again. We apologize again for any inconvenience.
Parents and guardians are required to complete the registration from before entering the build for the 2nd Quarter Honor Roll Assembly. Each student is allowed ONLY 2 guests and 1 response per student on the registration form. The due date for completion is February 19, 2024. [Form Link]
Attendance Notes to Ms. Holmes
Ms. Holmes, the attendance secretary, requests parents and guardians still email her (linda.holmes@pgcps.org) or send a physical note when students are absent from school. Pick Up Patrol helps her keep a record of absences but she still needs a physical record of each child's absence code. When parents/guardians send an email, she's able to print them out and use that in place of a physical note so continue to email or send a note. Ms. Holmes cannot accept absent notes weeks or months after the absence(s). She has to receive the notes 3 school days after the student(s) return to school, for excused AND unexcused absences.
Flag Football Volunteer Coaches Wanted!
BDF is looking for passionate individuals who want to make a positive impact on young lives to help coach for our upcoming flag football season. Volunteers will be required to get fingerprinted and must be able to commit to one to two practices a week from March until May. Interested individuals should register by clicking on the link below.

Dear Foulois Families,
The second quarter report cards were released on Friday, February 9th. If your student received pleasing grades for this quarter, congratulations to them! If the grades fell below your expectations, remember that there is always room for growth. We encourage families to sit together and create a plan to achieve the desired grades. If your child didn't bring home the paper copy, parents can access report cards in SchoolMax. Your support and involvement in your student's education are greatly appreciated.
We hope you're enjoying this rainy weekend. Regardless of the outcome of tonight's Super Bowl, we hope your favorite team had a good season. If not, we remain hopeful that the draft will set them up for success in the next season.
We'd like to express our sincere gratitude for your continued partnership and support. Your involvement in your child's education plays a vital role in their academic success. We value and appreciate your commitment to their growth and development.

Second Quarter Awards Ceremonies - DATE CHANGE! - AGAIN

Grade Appeal Window Opens & Closes
The grade appeal window opens Monday, February 12th. Here is the link to the Grade Appeal Form. [Link to Grade Appeal Form]. Parents and guardians have to submit the from within five days of the report card release date. Parents have to submit the form with their evidence to both teacher and the grade level administrator by Friday, February 16th.

This day will be dedicated to new students, students who were absent on the original picture day, and families requesting a retake. Students should bring the original photo package, including the original envelope and all pictures, to turn in to the photographer when they come for their new picture. These students do not need to fill out a new order form.

Last week, the third, fourth, and fifth graders participated in the Elementary Band and Orchestra Concert. For nearly half of the students, this was their first concert, and they did a great job! Congratulations to those performers and to Mrs. Alexander and Mr. Carter for all their hard work.
Health and Safety - BDF Families, we am sure you are aware that flu season is still upon us as well as Covid-like variants that are still in our midst. As a school community, we need your assistance with encouraging our students to take the following precautions: consistently wash their hands, use facial tissues to wipe their nose; to not share foods and to stay home if they have a temperature. As a school, we have included deep cleaning of classrooms as an additional step.
Home-School Communication - Families, thank you for your continued support and your understanding that we all want the best for our scholars. Positive communication is essential. Thank you for taking a stance of inquiry and not accusation when addressing a concern. This practice continues to support the home-school relationship.
We would like to express our gratitude to all the families for their continued partnership. Thank you for your support and involvement in our school community.

As a school, we have included deep cleaning of classrooms as an additional step.
Parent Volunteer/Incentive Field Trip - As we come to the end of the 2nd quarter, students who have not had disciplinary infractions that required the involvement of an administrator, are eligible to participate in the 2nd quarter incentive field trip. Kindergarten - 5th grade parents who would like to volunteer to chaperone on the field trip, must have completed ALL components of the parent volunteer requirements by January 19th. Mr. Agnew will send an email with the Sign-up Genius link for chaperones at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. As a friendly reminder, only 5 chaperones per K-5 homeroom and only chaperones who have completed the volunteer process will be selected to participate. Parent chaperones are not needed for students in grades 6-8.
Before adding your name to the Sign Up Genius, please make sure to fulfill these obligations as listed below:
Apply online at (Volunteer Application and Approval Process Information)
All volunteers are required to complete the online volunteer application annually. Current PGCPS Employees who wish to volunteer must log into the PGCPS Oracle Self-Serive menu and select the option "Register to Volunteer."

Dear Foulois Families,
We hope this newsletter finds you well. As we approach the end of the first quarter, we have some important announcements and updates to share with you.
Firstly, we would like to remind 8th-grade families that the 8th-Grade Parent Night Presentation is now available. Please take the time to read the Google Slideshow as it contains vital information for 8th-graders and their families. Additionally, we encourage all middle school families to visit the middle school page and Counselor's Corner for student service learning (SSL) opportunities.
For students in grades 3-5, we have implemented a new Creative Arts rotation. Please see below for more details. Also, kindly note that Monday is a B-Day for students in grades 3-5.
The Benchmark Testing Window has opened as of Monday, October 30th and will close on Monday, November 13th. We encourage all students to prepare and give their best effort during this assessment period.
We are excited to announce that our 8th-graders will be going on a field trip to St. Mary's City on Tuesday, November 7th. This hands-on experience will provide them with a deeper understanding of Maryland's history.
Furthermore, our 5th-graders will be attending Camp Schmidt this Wednesday and will return on Thursday, November 9th. It will be a wonderful opportunity for them to engage in outdoor activities and team-building exercises.
In the spirit of the upcoming holiday season, we are pleased to inform you that Andrews Federal Credit Union has generously donated 25 turkeys to Benjamin D. Foulois families. In order to properly identify families who would like to receive this support, please complete the yellow letter sent home in your child's Homework folder. The forms must be returned to Ms. Hogue by noon on November 6, 2023. Families will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis, and you will be notified of the selection by November 7, 2023.
Please note that this Friday, November 10th, schools will be closed for students. It is a professional development day for our teachers and staff.
We would also like to remind you that Individual Picture Day is scheduled for Thursday, November 30th. Flyers were sent home last week in students' Homework folders. To make a purchase, please click on the link provided.
Additionally, the application window for incoming Kindergarten siblings is now open. The application deadline is February 9, 2024. Priority admission is given to siblings of current Benjamin D. Foulois students. Please note that ONLY siblings of CURRENT Kindergarten through 7th graders are eligible for sibling placement. Siblings are defined as BROTHERS AND SISTERS BY BLOOD, MARRIAGE, OR ADOPTION LIVING IN THE SAME HOUSEHOLD (friends, cousins, or two separate families living under the same roof do not qualify as siblings). Kindergarten students must be five years old on or before September 1, 2023, to be eligible. If your child does not have a valid student ID number, please contact Ms. Holmes via email (linda.holmes@pgcps.org) to obtain one. Once the application is submitted, please send your confirmation email to Ms. Holmes.
We are thrilled to share some exciting initiatives from our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). Your voice matters, and we value your input. Please take a moment to participate in our Fundraiser Survey, which will help us prioritize areas for fundraising this year. Your feedback can make a real difference. Complete the survey by visiting the PTO website.
Lastly, we are also pleased to announce the opening of the BDF PTO Spirit Shop. Show your support for BDF by exploring the range of spirited gear available at bdfpto.org/shop. Every purchase from the Spirit Shop contributes to supporting our school.

Dear Foulois Families,
I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying the start of the Native American Heritage month. As we enter the month of November, we wanted to take a moment to share important announcements and updates with you.
Firstly, we want to remind you that the Benchmark Testing Window will open on Monday, October 30th. This is an essential time for our students to assess their progress and for us to gauge their academic growth. We encourage you to support your child during this period and ensure they are prepared for the assessments.
In addition, Wednesday, November 1st marks the first day of Native American Heritage month. Throughout the month, our school will be incorporating various activities and lessons to celebrate and learn about the rich history and contributions of Native American cultures.
Please note that Thursday, November 2nd is the end of the first quarter. This is an excellent opportunity to review your child's progress and discuss any concerns or questions with their teachers. We encourage open communication to ensure the success of our students.
Friday, November 3rd is an asynchronous school day for students. This means that students will engage in independent learning activities from home. Please plan accordingly.
On Monday, November 6th, students in 3rd through 5th-grade will begin their SECOND QUARTER CREATIVE ARTS ROTATION schedule. Please see the attached Google document for the new schedule.
CORRECTION: It was said in an earlier version, the new schedule was for primary students too. The new schedule IS NOT for students in K-2. Those students will continue the ABC rotation they followed during first quarter. We apologize for the confusion. Here is the a link to the Primary Rotation Schedule for your convenience.
We are thrilled to announce that our 8th-grade students will have the exciting opportunity to visit St. Mary's City on Tuesday, November 7th. This field trip will provide them with hands-on experiences and valuable insights into our local history. Permission slips will be sent home soon, so please keep an eye out for them.
We are thrilled to share some exciting initiatives from our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). Your voice matters, and we value your input. Firstly, we would like to inform you that schools are closed on Monday, September 25th in observance of the holiday, Yom Kippur. We hope that you have a meaningful and reflective day with your loved ones.
We are thrilled to share that our first fundraiser of the year, the Read-A-Thon, is already underway, and we have raised an impressive $12,000 so far. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been working diligently towards our fundraising goal. Your support means the world to us. Please remember that the Read-A-Thon ends on Tuesday, October 3rd, so let's keep up the great work!
We strongly encourage you to attend our first PTO General Body meeting, which will be held virtually on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. Your involvement and input are crucial in shaping the educational experience for our students. We have provided the Sign-Up Genius links for the October Parent-Teacher conferences in the Google Doc below. Please take a moment to sign up and reserve your preferred time slot.
In order to provide the best possible learning experience for our students, we have implemented a new process for purchasing new Chromebooks and troubleshooting any issues with the current ones. If you are in need of assistance with Chromebooks or chargers, please fill out the Google Form provided. Our team will be happy to assist you.
Now, let's take a moment to celebrate some of the highlights from the past week. We were delighted to see a large turnout for our first in-person Back-to-School nights since 2019. It was wonderful to reconnect with so many of you and share valuable information about your child's education. Additionally, we had an impressive turnout for the baseball and softball tryouts. We are excited to see so many talented students interested in sports this year. Lastly, our after-school clubs, such as Piano Club and Elementz, are actively recruiting new members. Please be on the lookout for information flyers in your child's folder or bookbag.
As we conclude this newsletter, we want to express our sincere gratitude to all of our families for their continued partnership and support. Your involvement in your child's education is invaluable, and we are grateful for every opportunity to work together towards their success.

Good Day Parents & Guardians,
We hope this newsletter finds you well and that you are settling into the new school year smoothly. As The Admin Team, would like to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude for your continued partnership and support. It is through our combined efforts that we can create a positive and enriching educational experience for our students.
First and foremost, we would like to remind you that the Parent & Principal meetings were held on Wednesday, September 6th. For those who were unable to attend, we have made the presentation available for you to view. You can find it on our school website. We value your involvement in your child's education and appreciate your commitment to staying informed.
We are excited to announce that this year, we will be showing our BDF spirit with spirit days! Please refer to the attached flyer for more information. Last week, we held our annual code of conduct assembly for Grades K - 5. We discussed important topics such as student rights and responsibilities, expectations for success at Foulois, and maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment. Please refer to the handbook for a comprehensive overview of the code of conduct. We have sent home documents, including the Acknowledgement of Student Rights and Responsibilities Review and Dress Code and Cell Phone Policy, which need to be signed and returned. The first primary grade level and intermediate grade level to return these documents, no later than Wednesday, September 13th, will be recognized as the 1st place winners.
In addition, we want to remind you that iReady testing for grades first through fifth will begin on Monday. This is an important assessment to gauge your child's progress and help us tailor our instruction to their needs. Please ensure your child is well-rested and prepared for these tests.
A friendly reminder regarding Pick Up Patrol: if you have not done so already, please update your child's dismissal plan in Pick Up Patrol. This ensures a smooth and organized dismissal process for everyone involved. If you have not registered yet or need another email invite, please contact Mr. Agnew. For more information about Pick Up Patrol, please visit our school website.
We are pleased to announce that our in-person Back to School Night is quickly approaching. Elementary parents are invited to join us on Tuesday, while middle school parents are invited on Wednesday. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your child's teachers and get a glimpse into their daily school life.
We kindly ask you to refer to the flyer for the Kindergarten Chromebook distribution event on Wednesday from 4:15 to 5:30 pm. Good Evening Parents & Guardians,
We are thrilled to report that the first week of school was a resounding success! Our students have already shown great enthusiasm and have quickly adapted to the routines and procedures necessary to create a thriving learning community. To celebrate our achievements, we held a fantastic pep rally in the gym, which further fueled our excitement for the upcoming weeks of rigorous instruction.
As we look ahead, please note that this week is a short but impactful one. All schools and offices are closed on Monday, September 6th, in observance of Labor Day. We hope that this restful break provides an opportunity for our families to recharge and spend quality time together.
We would also like to take this opportunity to inform you about an important task assigned to all schools in PGCPS. As part of our efforts to ensure the security and privacy of our students, we are in the process of resetting every student's PGCPS password. This is a crucial step before we begin the distribution of Chromebooks, which will begin the following week. We sincerely appreciate the patience and understanding exhibited by our parents, students, and teachers during this process.
Mark your calendars! Parent and Administrator night is scheduled for Wednesday, September 6th. In light of the ongoing circumstances, this event will be held virtually over Zoom. Elementary school parents will have the opportunity to engage with administrators from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, while middle school families can join the session from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. We encourage all of our families to attend and make the most of this valuable opportunity to connect with our administration.
Lastly, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of our families. Your continued partnership and support are invaluable in creating a positive and nurturing educational environment for our students. We are truly grateful for the trust you have placed in us, and we look forward to a successful and rewarding school year together. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Your feedback is always appreciated. Thank you once again for being an integral part of our Foulois family.

Good Evening Parents & Guardians,
Welcome to our 2023-2024 school year. We are excited to welcome each of you to what will be an auspicious and rigorous school year. We will diligently strive to provide robust instruction in an effort to ensure instructional continuity. Student and staff safety are still a priority, which will continue to be reflected in our school wide policies and procedures.
Our school system’s mission is, “To provide a great education that empowers all students and contributes to thriving communities.” The staff and I are filled with excitement as we prepare to start this year and look forward to achieving this mission with your support. Know that we are all in this together and will support one another through this journey. Below are systemic and school-based updates.
Student Safety: While the mandate for clear book bags has been adjusted for the first half of the school year to only include students in grades 9-12, BDF is strongly recommending all students come prepared with a clear bookbag. This is to support all safety measures as well as to stay prepared for the 2nd semester update of this policy. Additionally, Benjamin D. Foulois will continue to follow PGCPS and CDC guidelines to support the safety of all stakeholders. Updates will be communicated with all families via our Parent Newsletter.
Mask wearing - is voluntary
Ventilation Improvements - we will continue to use and monitor monthly changes of our MERV-13 high quality air filters to make sure our scholars and staff stay healthy.
Hand washing etiquette - will continue to be enforced. Visit the cdc.gov/handwashing website for proper hand washing instructions to practice at home with your child(ren).
School visitation - will be permitted, however, to support student/staff safety, visitation will be limited and modified.
Parents/Guardians will not be allowed to go beyond the main office nor visit classrooms unless scheduled by Administration.
Parent/Guardian conferences will have the option of being scheduled virtually or in-person.
School performances/activities will continue with limited parent/guardian attendance.
SCHOOL HOURS are 9:15 a.m. until 3:55 p.m. In order to ensure student safety, students may not enter the building before 8:45.a.m unless he/she is registered for the AlphaBest before/after care program.
OFFICE HOURS are 8:15 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. While we understand emergencies may arise, notification of dismissal plans must be communicated via the PickUp Patrol site by 2:00 p.m. Prior to September 5th, an email from PickUp Patrol will be sent to families in order to update students’ dismissal information. Changes that occur after 2 p.m. should be emailed to the classroom teacher, Ms. Holmes (registrar), Ms. Gorham (secretary), and the grade level administrator (all email addresses can be found on the BDF website). Additionally, in order to ensure a safe and orderly dismissal, early dismissal will end at 3:15 p.m. Students will not be dismissed for an early dismissal after 3:15 p.m. Lastly, a parent or guardian must sign a student in at the main office if they arrive after 9:15 a.m. Please note, the enclosed dismissal plan must be completed and returned on August 28th.
Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) experienced a cyber attack on the school system’s network on Monday, August 14, 2023. An estimated 4,500 user accounts out of 180,000 were impacted, primarily staff accounts. With the assistance of cybersecurity experts, continues to thoroughly investigate the cyber attack that disrupted our servers on Monday requiring district-wide password resets. We are now focused on completely restoring our technology environment and analyzing the scope of the event to determine any current and future data loss. While we are currently unaware of any specific misuse of information, cyber attacks of this nature typically result in a breach of data.
There are a few productivity functions the teachers and staff have yet to access. Teachers cannot send items to our printers and we cannot update the school websites. Please grant us patience as our IT professionals time to restore the functionality.
Dismissal Plan: It is essential that the enclosed dismissal plan is completed and returned to the homeroom teacher on August 28th. If you have multiple students at BDF, please complete one for each student.
Transportation: As we prepare for the 23-24 school year, PGCPS has continued to be impacted by the bus driver shortage. This will likely lead to some delays in transportation. Transportation will be provided for students who have been fully registered by August 9th. Parents can access bus route information in several ways. The SchoolMax family portal and the StopFinder app (if you already have an account) beginning Friday, August 18, 2023. https://bit.ly/PGCPSinfoFinderi If you can’t find your bus assignment you can use our PGCPS Bus Stop Finder on the transportation website to locate the nearest bus stop closest to your residence. Postcards will be mailed the week of August 14, 2023. Transportation will be sending additional updates to assist parents as we get closer to the start of the school year. If you have any questions or would like to report a concern, please complete and submit a ticket to the Transportation Resolution System page, at trs.pgcps.org, or you may call our Transportation Phone Bank, at 301-952-6570, beginning August 19, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All families should download Stopfinder bus app – Available on Google Play and the Apple AppStore. Parents/guardians must have an email address on file in SchoolMax in order to be invited to view the students’ bus schedule.
AlphaBest - K-8 before and after care program. Afterschool is where the adventure begins! Sign your child up today at www.alphabest.org or with the enclosed flyer.

Dear Foulois Families,
Dear Benjamin D. Foulois Families,
We hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying the holiday season. As we head into the Thanksgiving holiday, we have some important announcements and updates to share with you.
First and foremost, please note that Benjamin D. Foulois Administration will be closed this week from Wednesday through Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. We hope you have a wonderful time celebrating with family and friends.
We are excited to inform you that the first quarter report cards will be released on Tuesday, November 28th. Please take some time to review your child's progress and discuss any areas for improvement or commendation.
Don't forget that individual student picture day is coming up on Thursday, November 30th. Please tap the link (link) provided to view purchase options and ensure that your child is prepared for their photo.
We are excited to announce a new addition to the Foulois Family Newsletter. Our testing coordinator, Mrs. Codner, has created a Testing & Data Updates page. This page will provide updates and answer any questions or concerns you may have about testing. Please take a moment to visit this page if you need any information regarding testing.
Looking ahead, we have an exciting event planned for our Benjamin D. Foulois community. The PTO is hosting a Family Bingo Night on Friday, December 8th. The doors will open at 8:00 p.m. It will be a fun-filled evening for families to come together and enjoy some friendly competition. Please see the flyer below for more information.
We kindly ask for your support in making this event a success. The PTO is seeking donations to help sponsor Family Bingo Night. Your contributions will go a long way in creating a memorable experience for our students and families. Please see the letter below for more details on how you can contribute. (link to letter)
In addition, we are thrilled to announce the first quarter incentive field trips sponsored by the administration. Primary students will have their field trip on Tuesday, November 28th, followed by middle school students on Wednesday, November 29th, and intermediate students on Friday, December 1st. These trips are a great opportunity for our students to learn and have fun outside of the classroom.
Lastly, we want to remind you about the updated requirements for chaperoning field trips. To ensure the safety and well-being of our students, there are three steps to becoming a chaperone at Benjamin D. Foulois and in PGCPS. Please make sure to fulfill these obligations as listed below:
1. Complete the volunteer application form available at this (link).
2. Attend a mandatory chaperone training session.
3. Pass a background check.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
As we reflect on this past week, we are reminded of how grateful we are for our Benjamin D. Foulois families. Your continued partnership and support make our school community thrive. We are truly thankful for each and every one of you.
Wishing you a joyful Thanksgiving holiday filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments with your loved ones.
