Seal of Biliteracy

The Seal of Biliteracy is awarded to students who become proficient in more than one language by the time they graduate from high school. Students are eligible for the Seal of Biliteracy if they obtain a score of a 4 or 5 on an AP exam in a World Language or an average score of a 6 in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking on the STAMP assessment. The STAMP test is offered every spring to current seniors and the AP test is given every May to students who sign up for the exam and who are enrolled in one of our AP classes.

What is proficiency?

Proficiency levels define how much language a person can produce and understand by reading, writing, listening and speaking. For students to qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy and/or to pass the AP exam, students should aim for the Intermediate High or Advanced Low levels.

What do I need to do to get this processed?

Nothing! STAMP scores from feeder schools are processed through the PGCPS World Language Office and those who qualify will receive the award automatically. If you take the STAMP or AP exam at ERHS, we submit those to the World Language Office for processing. If there is a discrepency, we will ask for your score report as proof of their score.

How do these different proficiency levels align to your future career goals?
