➕ How do I know which classes to take?
The S/T planner is your guide to the program. The planner provides you with information to successfully navigate the program including all necessary coursework to earn the endorsement.
➕ How many credits do I need to earn the Science and Technology endorsement?
You need to earn 13 credits.
➕ What are Advanced STEM Electives?
Advanced STEM electives are the science elective courses that you will take to meet the criteria to earn your endorsement in your major.
➕ Which AP courses do not count as AP completer courses?
AP Computer Science Principles and AP Environmental Science both count as Advanced STEM Electives but do not count as credit towards your AP Completer course.
➕ What majors are available?
The following majors are available to students.

Engineering/Physics
Computer Science
Exploratory
➕ When can I choose my major?
Students choose their major in the spring of their sophomore year.
➕ What are the different options?
Students will select from the following options.
Option 1 : Full Day schedule with RP
Option 2: Internship
Option 3: Half-Day schedule with RP + 1 Dual Enrollment Course per semester
➕ When do I select my option?
Students select their option in the spring of their junior year.
➕ Can I change my option?
Students may not change their option once it is selected as the senior scheduled is based on the selected option.
➕ Can I change my major?
Students may not change their major as the major determines the courses that students will take during the last two years of the program.
Research Practicum (RP)
➕ What is Research Practicum (RP)?
Research Practicum is a course in which students develop an original STEM- based project during their senior year.
➕ Do all students have to take RP?
Yes, all Science and Technology students must take RP.
➕ What RP sections are currently available?
The RP sections that are available are:
RP Biology
RP Physical Science
RP Engineering
RP Internship
RP Environmental Science
➕ Do I get to choose my RP project?
Students are placed in an RP section based on the major they choose at the end of the 10th grade year or in RP Internship if they are offered an internship.
➕ What are internships?
The internship program is a competitive program that provides students with the opportunity to conduct research at an off campus facility under the guidance of a mentor.
➕ What is the internship process?
Students that are interested in applying for the internship program must complete the application in the fall of their junior year. Once the application is processed students will be alerted in early spring if they were accepted into the program. Students must provide their own transportation to internship sites.

➕ What is the deadline for applying for an internship?
The deadline to submit the application for an internship is early December. The specific date will be shared at the beginning of the school year.
➕ Will my RP class be held during the morning?
There is no guarantee that your RP class will meet in the morning, therefore you should plan to be on campus in the afternoon until you confirm your schedule.
Dual Enrollment
➕ Can S&T students participate in dual enrollment classes?
Yes, S&T students are encouraged to take dual enrollment courses.
➕ What institutions can I attend?
Students can attend Prince George's Community College as well as other institutions. The process may differ depending on the institution. Please reference the PGCPS Dual Enrollment website for further guidance.

➕ Do dual enrollment credits count as Advanced STEM Electives?
Certain dual enrollment classes will count as Advanced STEM electives. Please consult the Science and Technology Coordinator to verify classes.
➕ Do I need approval to take dual enrollment courses?
Yes, approval from the Science and Technology Coordinator is required.
➕ Do I have to take all science courses?
It depends. If you have completed your Advanced STEM electives by your senior year, then you can take courses such as English 1010. This is on a case by case basis, please see your S/T coordinator for course approval.
➕ If I need a dual enrollment class for an Advanced STEM ELective can I take the class in the summer?
No, you must take the class during the school year.
➕ Do I automatically qualify for a half day schedule if I am taking dual enrollment classes?
No. The half day schedule is granted on a case by case basis and is contingent upon completion of MSDE graduation credits.
➕ Is my request for an morning half day schedule guaranteed ?
No. If you are granted a half day schedule, it may be for the morning OR the afternoon. Please do not make plans to be off campus during your senior year until you have confirmed at the beginning of the school year that you will have a morning half day schedule.
