English Courses & Placement

All grade levels offer English comprehensive and English honors, a course which requires an additional workload of reading and more rigorous writing expectations than comprehensive. Students are placed in courses based on teacher recommendation and performance in the previous year's class.*

After 10th grade, students have the option to take AP English Language & Composition 11. Students who are not ready to take AP in grade 11 may also move from English 11 honors into AP English Literature and Composition 12 with teacher permission.

If you are interested in taking an Honors English or AP course for the first time, please make sure you view the following:

The video gives you a brief overview of an honors English an AP courses. In addition, the video discusses some of the expectations and characteristics of an honors/AP student as well.

  1. Honors/AP: Self-Evaluation and Course Commitment Application (for 22-23 SY)

If you are interested in taking an honor English or AP course for the first time, you must complete the application no later than February 15, 2022 (deadline extended to 2/28/22). Please make sure you take the opportunity to have discussions with your English teacher, counselor and parent/guardian.
